Julian Bancs

It's not about having coin, it's about spending it.
— Julian Bancs, 298 RB
Julian Bancs of House Bancs was the gnome named Coinmaster in the Valyean Empire. He was originally a Bulo Merchant who had made his base of operations on the southern Valyean coast, forming the Bancs Insurance Company on ships and trade. He built up a small fortune in managing money and, when Emperor Roja was looking for a suitable new Coinmaster in 245 RB it was suggested that Bancs would be the best candidate.   Bancs was awarded a title other than merchant, forming the House of Bancs, and given land within Aradea. It is said that Bancs never spent a day in his realm.   From 245 RB to 306 RB, Bancs acted as Coinmaster and managing the coin for the entire empire. It has been heavily recorded that he was incredibly skilled in managing the imperial purse - he could find money when there was none, managed sudden expenditures with ease, and also keep a steady profit. Bancs heavily advocated for investing in infrastructure and rebuilt many fortifications around the empire at strategic locations, but also poured moeny into the major markets. Some say it was the investment from the Empire that made Jaunport a wealthy port.   Bancs was said to get along well with Emperor Dafyd during his time in court, though they did not see quite eye-to-eye. The rest of the royal court remained suspicious of Bancs, having come from Bulo, but could never determine for why.   In 306 RB, when Dafyd's death hit the court, Julian Bancs disappeared from court and was not seen from for some time. It soon became apparent he had run to the town of DryDry in the Faustian Peaks. With the investments from the crown, DryDry had begun to turn into a living town from a small village in the plateau. And with Julian's arrival, he put himself to work to make it a tourist destination.   In 331 RB, Bancs passed away from natural causes, but the ramifications of his efforts to transform DryDry are still praised today; a statue stands in DryDry as a testament for his skill and passion for building DryDry into a successful and wealthy town in a place it had no business being.
