Shadow Kronae

The Shadow Kronae is a beastly creature that inhabits the Akos Canyons in Reakea. They are formidable nocturnal creatures that live in caves during the day. They are typically considered monstrous if only because of the dangers they pose to the unwary in the canyon after dark.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Large hulking creatures that stand at about 5 feet tall and are roughly 7 feet long, the shadow kronae is a renowned predator with long powerful legs equipped with poisonous claws. These long limbs are built more for strength than speed given the awkward placement of them and limited shoulder movement their bodies allow.   Their bodies are covered in a strong protective shell that is impervious to most metals and is covered in small poisonous spikes, with a longer ridge of spines off their backs that curl up half was down their spine. Their heads are eqally armored to the bodies with one long horn covered in the same spices the rest of their bodies have as well. Their mouths are also able to open further than most creatures of their type with rows of sharp teeth capable of sheering bone.

Genetics and Reproduction

The shadow kronae, much like all other breeds of the creature, go through a process of delayed implantation which can last for about four months. After which there is an additional four month gestation before the birth of litter of up to four identical offspring.

Growth Rate & Stages

The korae are born with their eyes open and spend about two months in nurture but stay with their mother for roughly six months while their skin toughens into their protective armor. After this point the wander on their own to claim their own territory.

Dietary Needs and Habits

The korae are unforgiving carnivores and will eat anything from small rodents to unsuspecting travelers who wander into their territory. They are now incredibly picky about their prey and they eat a large amount due to their size and stature. This has led to their reputation as one of the most dangerous creatures in the Akos Canyons region.

Behaviour

An interesting behavior of the shadow korae is that they tend to hibernate in the colder months, which makes them even more dangerous during their feeding cycle to store up for that time. This behavior though does not seem to be necessary in that not all members of the species do this, in fact studies seem to show that it is a strictly male behavior.

Additional Information

Facial characteristics

They have almost vulpine faces with their most prominent feature being their large mouths as well as their glowing orange eyes. Many unsuspecting travlers have escaped the krnoae simply because of the glow from their eyes.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

The shadow korae is only found in the Akos Canyons region of Reakea. Something that many who have faced them are thankful for.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Being a nocturnal creature their eyes are made to see in the dark leaving their daylight sight rather weak. In addition their other senses are not as strong as other, smaller and less monstrous versions of the kronae. This handclap is one of the few things that keeps these predators from being considered especially dangerous.

Their colorations varies only slightly with their main color being blue and their spikes being blue and purple alternately that fade into grey at the tips. They do sometimes have a red sheen to them however due to the poison in their spike and spines.
