The Sun Beam
“Legend foretells of a great sword used by the Shining God to lead his peoples south through the dancing dunes and across the neck of Eteros. The nomads and settlers followed a shining light for hundreds of miles, day and night. After forty five days of walking, praying, and hoping to come across their promised land, the leader of their tribe, Haishail Garda, watched as a flaming sword rocketed from the heavens and landed at the point of light they had been following on their journey, far off in the distance on a great hill. When the tribe followed Haishail and crested the hill, they looked upon a great river flowing into the ocean and forming a natural harbor. They decided to found their city at the base of the great hill. To celebrate their new home, the peoples crafted a sword to replicate their holy sign from the Shining God using the metals he had bestowed upon them. It was a metal that shown a brilliant gold, and seemed to continue unleashing the light of the sun long after dusk. They named this weapon Sun Beam and gifted it to their leader and savior, Haishail GardA.” - Myths, Legends, and Tales; Encylopedia GloratiumThe Sun Beam is the ancestral sword of the Garda family. It was crafted from a metal never before seen on the continent of Rallia, and never found again afterwords. The golden hued metal, Sun Stone, sparkles in the sun as a diamond would and retains a luster even at night, baffling many Academy alchemists and professors. This metal of which it was cast was found upon the settling of the city of Occendia by the nomadic peoples of Rallia. Sitting on a nearby hill was an outcropping of Sun Stone, and though it was small, it sparkled brilliantly. The people of the town mined the metal and gave the sword to the house that had led them so far, the Garda family, or so the legend goes. The sword is roughly four and a half feet long, with a iron Hanna guard encrusted in local gemstones from the minor families of the region. The guard is stamped with the seals of the Garda family, and the pommel is stamped with iconography of the Shining God. It is said to have magically properties, and gains strengths when used in the daylight by those powerful with the Aura, although this attribute has yet to be practiced at length since the time of the Forefather Conquest.
Today, these stories are thought to be mostly fairy tale by those outside of the Garda family and some of the more faithful follower’s of the Shining God. The sword resides in their family estate in Occendia, and is past to the eldest child when they come of age. A ceremony is held when said child is of age, and the sword is placed upon a great altar at the top of the Holy Hill. When wielded by the eldest child it is supposed to glow if they are deemed worthy in the eyes of the Shining God. In the years since this ceremony began, only 2 children have not passed this test, and it has led to great dishonor for the child and the parents, in some cases even leading to banishment from the city.
