Tabaxian Records

The First Words
As the oldest humanoid species to exist on Goia, the Tabaxi are considered the progenitors of all known civilization. While much about their culture has been lost to time, the Tabaxian Records give us a small glimpse into how our ancestors lived.

Collection of Relics

There is a common misconception that the Tabaxian Records pertain to a solitary document, when in reality, it is comprised of a series of relics discovered by Giles Hyll. The records contain articles of clothing, weaponry, engravings, and much more, all in various degrees of decay. Among all the items, a single piece of parchment gives us the greatest insights into the Tabaxi lifestyle.

As we can see, the Tabaxi adopted a peculiar form of writing. All characters are connected by a single line, indicating that the written syntax of Tabaxian language seems to be without punctuation or pause. It is also worth noting that there does not appear to be graphemes, or differentials between characters (i.e. "A" or "a"). These shortcomings, amongst others, leads to the assumption that the written language of the Tabaxi was a partial system, meaning that it is incapable of fully encapsulating the spoken language.

Discovery

Professor Giles Hyll has remained vague in the location in which she made the discovery of the first relics. It is theorized that they were discovered during a journey to the northern reaches of Credia, the exact whereabouts are currently unknown. However, Tabaxian artifacts have appeared scattered throughout Goia, indicating that the ancient race may have been nomadic in nature.

Decrpytion

Academics throughout the world are continously translating the inscriptions of the Tabaxi. Progress is slow due to the complex nature of the language. Not only is the written form incapable of being pronounced, but the system of reading has been debated for centuries. Many believe that it is read in a top-to-bottom fashion starting from the left, while others argue that it is to be read from bottom-to-top. In either direction, there are clear messages to be read, leading to a "palindromatic" method of interpretation.
"Who are you? Get your pen out of my face and leave me alone!"
