The Dragon and the Serpent

Summary

In the early days of the Jade Empire a monstrous green serpent is said to have risen in opposition to the golden dragon lord and the impact of their fight was so intense mountains cracked and the foundation of the capital cracked. However the gold dragon was victorious and slew the green serpent spilling its blood across the mountains and scattering it's scales to the lands below

Historical Basis

It is said that there is truth to the myth of the battle between the golden dragon lord and a massive green serpent-like creature and that some of the more longer lived folk of the Jade Empire remember a time when the mountains themselves seemed to shake as thunderous roars cried out from high up in the cloudy crests of the Nephite Mountains

Spread

This legend has spread widely across the Jade Empire with many telling the story as either a bedtime story or as a warning to children to be good and many see the tale as a gesture of the empire's good fortune

Variations & Mutation

Some say that in truth the battle between the serpent and the dragon lord was in fact a draw and that the vile serpent played a vile trick and wounded the gold dragon causing it to flee to the mountains to heal while a seldem few say that the vile serpent was in fact the spirit of the mountains angered by the citizens of the empire taking the lands resources.
