Mythology
Vathiá is an ancient god, same as the Mother Goddess. He has lived long, and his nature is mysterious. He is not forgotten, so to speak, but he is starting to become one. People do not know the depths of his power; but often sailors pray to him asking not to end up in a watery grave. He is also seen as a god of revenge and retribution, and of chaotic change. Despite all this, he is not universally seen as evil.Less is known about him than about other gods. Some think that Deep Speech comes from him and his oldest followers, millenia ago.
He is said to have abandoned the Higher Plane, and taken residence in the deepest, darkest, most hidden corners of The Far Deep.
Divine Domains
Vathiá concerns himself with matters of tempests, the deep sea and its currents and storms. He is an ancient god and sometimes associated with death — but he simply ensures that those meant to die stay dead; he is a transporter of souls, in a way.
Divine Symbols & Sigils
A dark wave, crashing right.
Worship
Not as many people worship Vathiá as was usual centuries ago; but his worshippers have always been people like sailors or those living in coastal places, who could be at the mercy of the sea. Some pray to him to strengthen their resolves or to affirm their quests for revenge, believing his blessing will make them successful at them.Churches
Churches to Vathiá still exist, especially in the smaller archipielagos or islands where no one can escape being surrounded by the sea. Oftentimes these churces seek to make others more aware of Vathiá’s power; determined to not let his memory fall into oblivion, lest this anger him.Cults
There have always been cults who pray to gods with exclusive malicious intent, but whispers of cults connected to Vathiá have always been many. Some of these were connected to vicious pirates; others to untameable armies, and others still to groups who would sacrifice anything for one specific goal.“Do not worry: I will not be forgotten. It is not a decision for mortals.”
