The Iron Peaks Mineshaft was once the pride of Rark and Tottenham, renowned for its abundant jewels, minerals, and rich metals. However, a massive cave-in 30 years ago changed everything. This catastrophic event claimed the lives of all the miners and began turning the land dead and vile. This site is of great importance, both historically and in the present day, as it has become a focal point for malevolent forces in the land's ongoing struggles.

Geography

The Iron Peaks Mineshaft is located in a mountainous region characterized by steep, rugged terrain and jagged peaks. The mine itself descends deep into the earth, with a network of tunnels and caverns that once provided access to the rich veins of jewels and metals. The surrounding area, now blighted by corruption, has become barren and desolate, with twisted, lifeless trees and a perpetual gloom hanging in the air.

Ecosystem

The ecosystem around the Iron Peaks Mineshaft has been drastically altered. Once a thriving area with diverse flora and fauna, it is now a wasteland. The soil is poisoned, unable to support plant life, and the few remaining creatures are twisted and corrupted by the dark magic emanating from the mine.

Localized Phenomena

These include areas of unnaturally dark shadows, whispers of malevolent voices, and sudden, chilling winds that seem to come from nowhere. The land itself seems to pulse with a dark energy, making it a dangerous and eerie place to visit.
The Cavern of Echoes: A vast cavern where the voices of the dead miners can still be heard, echoing through the tunnels. This place is both a memorial and a haunting reminder of the mine's tragic past.
The Blighted Forest: Surrounding the mine, this forest has been corrupted by Vecna's influence. The trees are twisted and lifeless, and the ground is covered in a sickly, dark moss.

Fauna & Flora

Before the cave-in, the Iron Peaks region was home to a variety of plant and animal life. Now, however, the area is devoid of most natural life. The few remaining plants are twisted and sickly, while the animals that once thrived here are either dead or transformed into monstrous versions of their former selves.

History

For decades, the Iron Peaks Mineshaft was a source of prosperity for the towns of Rark and Tottenham. The wealth generated from the mine fueled the growth and development of these communities. However, 30 years ago, miners delving too deep triggered a catastrophic cave-in. This event not only trapped and killed the miners.
Corruption began to seep out, spreading death and decay across the land. It was this catastrophe that seemed to ignite a spark under the Orcs, whispering promises of power as the orc god Gruumsh, that ignited the war, pitting orcs against the other races. This revelation has since cast a dark shadow over the region, making the Iron Peaks Mineshaft a place of dread and foreboding.
