Rark

Rark is a small town clinging to the precarious slopes of a valley. Its buildings straggle along a rough, winding road that follows the edge of a vast, serene lake. Once a bustling farming community, Rark has faced numerous challenges over the past century. Around 30 years ago, a disaster in the nearby Iron Peaks Mineshaft caused a devastating landslide, transforming the lush northern side of the valley into a desolate area known as the Dead Wood. Despite these hardships, the resilient people of Rark continue to rebuild and thrive, drawing strength from their picturesque yet perilous surroundings.

Government

Rark is governed by a mayor who oversees the day-to-day operations and ensures the well-being of the townspeople. The current mayor is Lorena Marsh, a resilient and dedicated leader who took charge after the disaster that struck the mines thirty years ago. Lorena comes from a long line of local farmers, and her connection to the land and its people runs deep. Despite the challenges, she has worked tirelessly to maintain order and provide for the community, even as the corruption from the Iron Peaks Mineshaft threatens the town's stability.

Industry & Trade

Rark's economy has shifted from primarily farming to a more diversified approach. Fishing from the lake provides a vital food source, while small-scale farming and livestock rearing continue on the less affected slopes. The town also engages in trade with neighboring settlements, offering goods such as fish, handcrafted items, and medicinal herbs gathered from the resilient plants that still grow in the valley.

Districts

Lakeview District: The heart of Rark, where most of the town's buildings are clustered along the lake's edge. This district is home to the town's main market, inns, and shops, offering stunning views of the lake.   High Ridge District: Located on the higher slopes of the valley, this district consists of homes and small farms that managed to survive the landslide. The residents here have a commanding view of both the town and the surrounding area.   Riverbend District: Situated along the remnants of the river that once flowed through the valley, this district is now primarily residential, with modest homes and gardens.   Dead Wood Border: The area bordering the Dead Wood, marked by husks of trees and barren soil. This district is sparsely populated, with only a few hardy souls living here and keeping watch over the corrupted land.   Market Hill: A small rise where traders and merchants gather to sell their goods. This district is bustling with activity, especially on market days.   Echoes Edge: A district near the edge of the valley, where the echoes of the past disaster still linger. This area is quieter, with a somber atmosphere and a few memorials to those lost in the landslide.

Geography

Rark is nestled in a steep valley, with its homes and buildings perched precariously on the slopes. The town overlooks a vast lake, which provides both a scenic backdrop and a crucial water source. The northern side of the valley, once fertile and green, is now a barren wasteland known as the Dead Wood. This desolate area stretches between the closed Iron Peaks Mineshaft and the town, a stark reminder of the disaster that struck three decades ago.
