Virifell - The City of Ruins
The city itself is a bustling metropolis. The docks along the coastline stay busy day and night bringing in goods into the city and exporting. Of course, during the night they have at times been known to port in slaves and/or export them out. The smell of salt fills most of the air from the ocean. The inner castle keep in the middle of the city is walled off and the district around the original castle is old and run down as this was the original settlement. Out in the ocean, the remains of most of the castle keep litter the shoreline from the cliffside where it slid off many years ago and has been rebuilt. Most of the town resembles an old Viking settlement with dark wooden houses, wood and thatched rooves, and most streets made of dirt. There are quite a few rats within the city, more than likely due to Brytha's control as well as a strange fog that rolls in from time to time taking eerie forms such as claws and serpents; some say it's the souls of the deceased that died during the collapse of the castle keep. The city is run by Brytha Grangerford as liaison for her brother in the Holy City. Brytha stays in the keep most of the time and has an assistant named Thames. Thames has a narrow face, with straight grey hair and brown eyes. He wears tailored clothing and a silver holy symbol. He smells sweet like flowers when around him. They have found a way to make a cream to prevent sunlight damage; however, it only lasts around 4 hours. Outside of that, there are local town guards that patrol the streets during the day. During the shift change, there are different guards that bear the holy symbol below on their armor to enchant them and help them see in the night giving their eyes an eerie glow (like cat eyes however, it also provides slight control and memory alteration while wearing it by Brytha or Thames by a magical device located within the keep.
Recently, Thames encountered a terrible accident and Brytha is taking full control of the city and imposing a strict "don't be out after dark" order until the crime settles down at night. Because of her actions, some of the townsfolk have begun to volunteer more to join the night watch while the rat problem in the city continues to be thwarted by a small army of goblins that use the rats as a free meal and a little bit of coin on the side.
