Dragonborn
The only major race created entirely by mortal magic, though mortal is a term loosely used here as they were formed by the nearly immortal dragons of Celene. Dragons and Giants comprised the first wave of beings to emerge from Celene, and they fought bitterly over land and domination of the nascent race of men. The dragons used the knowledge of the gods to genetically create a version of themselves closer in appearance to man, to aid in their assimilation of the human race. The results were the first dragonborn, and they were initially designed to be incapable of reproduction.
But the dragons, as smart as they were, didn't fully understand the science or magic they were dealing with. Within a few generations of their experimental dragonborn, a strain was bred that accidentally had the ability to reproduce. The dragons tried to eliminate this batch, but many escaped the purge, hiding out and slowly building their numbers.
Like many other non-humans, the dragonborn have a hard time finding their place in the world. They are both small in number and frightening to the general populace. This deadly combo prevents them from fitting in most places and even establishing any significant colonies of their own. For many, a dragonborn is the closest they'll ever come to seeing an actual dragon, most are terrified by their looming presence, but some are fascinated.
Like many of the other "outcast" races, dragonborn tend to live in "harder," frontier communities, where their intimidating presence is considered an asset against raiders and wild animals. Contrary to this image, many dragonborn are rather gentle giants, simply wishing to live in peace with the rest of the world.
There are, naturally, more violent, self-centered dragonborn who think their draconic lineage is a birthright that needs to be lorded over the other, "inferior" races. These tend to be born of the typically "evil," chromatic dragons (red, blue, green, white), with the gentler draconians usually the spawn of metallic dragons (copper, silver, gold, platinum). This is in no way an absolute, and many draconains defy stereotypes (just like all the other races presented here).
Dragonborn adventurers tend to be displaced wanderers, looking for a chosen family or home to call their own. Some inherited the dragon propensity for hoarding treasure, and as such, adventure for gold and items. Some rage against the unjust world that birthed them and seek work as mercenaries, bent on evening the playinf field. Across the board, draconians have a propensity for magic, also passed down from their dragon ancestors. However, most colleges of magic are pretty restrictive about allowing the "unpredictable" beings from enrolling, so they have to seek out arcane knowledge and training elsewhere. This is not quite as difficult as it may seem, for what magician wouldn't want a fearsome bodyguard/apprentice in their employ?
