The Augurs of Will

"The Order of Disbelief..."

Though it is widely accepted that the very gods of creation exist (though long asleep within their ancestral home of Mount Celene) and commune with Gothenkind, there are some that believe that it's all a charlatan's game. The Augurs of Will proffer that in a world of unlimited magic, one, or many, may tap such resources to give themselves the appearance of gods, and the gullible will follow.   They further believe that the Sundering was nothing but a fight between magicians of different orders, all seeking to increase their powers to further pull the wool over their follower's eyes. They do not dispute that Celene is a wellspring of arcane energy, rather they only contest the concept of "divine power."   As an organization, one of their primary goals is to gain access to Mount Celene so they can prove, once and for all, that nothing godly exists within. They do acknowledge the dangers manifest within the "holy mountain," not to mention the Churn that surrounds it. This, along with the devout protectors of Celene, the monastic order of the Staying Hand, has kept them from achieving their goal to date.   There are multiple chapters of the Augurs, with the largest operating out of the noble district in Angleport. They are not a huge organization, but they are a rather influential one, especially with nobles who do not like the notion that their "illusion of free will" is merely a front provided by the "gods." The Augurs have attempted, and often succeeded, in placing members within positions of governmental power in various city states and sovereign nations. They do not, however, have any major influence over the Wyethian government itself, which is largely predicated upon the "divine right" of its kings.   The strongest chapter as of this date is located in Varuumae Corona, where the Grand Hassir himself gives credence to their unpopular claims. Some say the alleged madness of the Hassir has something to do with his acceptance of these "blasphemers" in the royal court.   Amongst their ranks, the Augurs claim some of the strongest practitioners of divination magic. Outside of their leader, the High Inquisitor, the greatest station within the organization is that of the True Seer. This diviner is gifted with the "Milk of Sayron," which increases their powers, yet leaves them addicted to the substance and mutates their eyes to a milky, pupil-less white.   It is some small miracle that, to date, no violence has broken out, either perpetuated by the Augers, or in response to them and their "blasphemous" claims.   Their symbol is a blindfold with wide eyes burning through it.

Structure

The Augurs of WIll are headed by a High Inquisitor. The current High Inquisitor being the half-elven female noble, Erana Latrek.

Public Agenda

To "pull the wool" from the eyes of the holy.

Assets

The Augers count amongst their number many of the richest families in Hariel Minuta (and some in Hariel Majour as well).

History

Founded but several hundred years ago, the Augers were formed by a group of magic initiates from wealthy Varuum families. These initiates spent time studying in the Tower of Light, and something in their Custodial training led them to their organizational viewpoint.
