Dragonborn

Dragonborn worship Ancient Dragons and Greatwyrms as both god and ancestor. The draconic ancestor determines the scales and colour of a dragonborn, as well as their affinity with magic and the elements. Dragons are highly venerated among dragonborn, even to an unhealthy extent at times. A more haughty Dragonborn might refer to the other races as the "Lower Races", a term taken from the Dragons themselves to refer to the common sapient races of the realm.   Chromatic and Metallic Dragonborn hail from the Ancient Dragon children of the broods of Greatwyrm Sindren and Greatwyrm Nidrir. Gem Dragonborn instead hail from the Ancient Dragons born from Greatwyrm Maricielle, The Stardiver.   Dragonborn were created as servants for the dragons. They would tend to the tasks that the dragons saw themselves above. After the war centuries ago that killed most of the dragons, Dragonborn no longer live to serve the whims of dragons. They are free to carry out their own wills.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Dragonborn look very much like dragons standing erect in humanoid form, though they lack wings or a tail. The first dragonborn had scales of vibrant hues matching the colours of their dragon kin, but generations of interbreeding have created a more uniform appearance. Their small, fine scales are usually brass or bronze in colour, sometimes ranging to scarlet, rust, gold, or copper-green. They are tall and strongly built, often standing close to 6½ feet tall and weighing 300 pounds or more. Their hands and feet are strong, talon-like claws with three fingers and a thumb on each hand.   The blood of a particular type of dragon runs very strong through some dragonborn clans. These dragonborn often boast scales that more closely match those of their dragon ancestor—bright red, green, blue, or white, lustrous black, or gleaming metallic gold, silver, brass, copper, or bronze.
