Ikamura

The island of Ikamura sits within the Glimmering Isles, to the west of Gran Lorien.  It is ruled by a shogun, and several noble houses.  The island itself has a temperate climate, and boasts a variety of plant life not usually seen in Gran Lorien.  Large meadows of white, yellow, and red flowers.  Vast forests of trees with golden leaves.  Towering mountains with humble shrines at their peaks and petals flowing in the wind.     The samurai of the noble houses act as guardians of the island, and enforce justice to those who do wrong while protecting and giving hope to the commonfolk.  The monks of the Kakusha monasteries build temples to Amata and act as healers and charity workers while disciplining themselves through martial arts.   As an island, the people of Ikamura live on a seafood heavy diet, supplementing it with rice grown in fields across the coast.  Fishing ships are seen on the horizons at all times of day.  Squid are found in large populations along the Ikamuran coastlines, and as such, squid, grilled in sesame oil and garnished with lemon, is a popular delicacy on the island.

Culture

Ikamuran Cuisine   The people of Ikamura put a great deal of artistry and care into the food they consume. Seafood is a staple in the Ikamuran diet, as is rice, chicken and beef. Fish is frequently consumed raw and combined with rice and seaweed.     Inkpot Ikayaki   Grilled squid sliced into rings and served on a stick, then drizzled in a sweetened soy sauce mixed with squid ink. A popular dish sold by street vendors along the markets of Mizugane.   Tagayasu Chahan   A steaming bowl of fried rice mixed with chopped carrots, peas, onion, scrambled egg, mushrooms and topped with slices of salted pork belly. Coastal variants use crab meat instead of pork belly.   Shirogari Gyudon   A generous helping of rice topped with beef and onion, simmered in a fish and seaweed stock. A commonly served dish in the pampas grass meadows of the Shirogari Plains.   Silver Sake   A Mizugane specialty, consumed in large quantities by the workers of Tetsu-cho, a metal-working district in the sprawling city of Mizugane. A robust wine brewed from rice and served alongside grilled chicken or fish.   Sakura Dango   Beautiful pink confectionaries. Ikamuran sweet dumplings made from rice flour and served drizzled in a syrup made from sakura blossoms.   Tsurizao Takoyaki   A round ball of wheat flour batter with diced octopus at its center. Served with a generous sprinkling of spring onion or dried seaweed.
