Limsa

The Limsa typically keep to themselves, living mostly in small colonies in wooded areas but can be found occasionally in tundra, grasslands and mountainous regions as well. The Limsa share common ancestry with Fey creatures, and often find ways to coexist with their kind. The Limsa are most prevalent in the Fey-Lands, but smaller colonies have been known to crop up in other regions of Gran Lorien as well. Even in the most isolated colonies, the Limsa are a sociable people. Limsian warrens are usually tight-knit communities and the Limsa are not known to venture off on their own. Most Limsa find that they become anxious when isolated.

Basic Information

Biological Traits

The Limsa are bipedal, humanoid creatures. Their appearance matches most closely to humans, with some rather standout differences. They possess large ears, located on the top of their head like a rabbit's, that are coated with a fine, soft fur. This fur does not always match the colour of their hair. Their senses are sharpened from centuries of dwelling deep within the woods, and their large ears keep them alert to danger. They have long, powerful legs that they use to make bounding leaps and quick retreats from would-be attackers. Far back in Limsian bloodlines their people share in ancient fey ancestry and as such, the Limsa also share a small touch of fey luck. Limsa typically have a diet of exclusively vegetables and fruit, but some have been known to stray from that if raised outside of a Limsian warren or driven to desperation.

Naming Traditions

Centuries ago, the Limsa did not use first names but they have since adopted the tradition. Limsian first names are often influenced by the closest culture that dwells near their colony. If the first name is not taken from a neighbouring culture, then the Limsa often name their children after flowers, trees, and other elements of nature. The Limsa derive their surnames from the traits, reputation, environment and deeds of their ancestors.

Examples of Limsian Surnames: Dawnchaser, Thicketpaw, Brookjumper, Wild-Ear, Meadowfinder, Flower-Eater.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

The Limsa have developed a non-verbal language that uses mostly hand signs and the occasional motion with their ears. They refer to it as Hush. The language was developed over centuries and was derived from a need to communicate with other members of the colony while remaining silent and stealthy in times of peril. The more basic elements of Hush can be taught to non-Limsa, but to be truly fluent in it, one needs the long ears that are the Limsa trademark.
