The Red Order

The Red Order are a knightly order dedicated to the extermination of fiends, demons and devils. A subset of the Church of the Bride & Groom, the Knights of the Red act as paladins, enacting vengeance on fiends that run havoc in the lives of mortals.   The Knights of the Red travel between the Churches of Death, going where requested in order to investigate demonic presences and carve them from this realm. Though the Red Order is mostly made of Paladins, they also recruit those of different talent sets, such as Blood Hunters, Sorcerers and other occult magicians. Their philosophy is that one must know their enemy well in order to most effectively slay them.     The Red Sacrament:   The Red Sacrament is a ritual that initiates new recruits into the Red Order. The ceremony is performed in holy buildings that worship the Bride & Groom. The initiate is anointed with concentrated devil’s blood, that the initiate themselves obtained. The blood is then smeared across the skin in runic patterns, one rune on each shoulder, and the last over the heart. The drawn patterns are known as Cauteries, and the Knights of the Red believe them to be wards that protect against fiends.   Once anointed, the initiate must recite the Oath of the Red as the devil’s blood burns at their skin, permanently scarring the warding runes into the skin. The pain of the ritual is thought to be cleansing, resisting the burn of devil’s blood and clearing the mind with one central focus remaining: the eradication of fiends.   Successful completion of the Red Sacrament means the initiate has joined the Red Order and grants them resistance to the effects of fiend blood, as long as their Cauteries remain undisturbed.         The Oath of the Red:   “Let the fiend’s heart fall silent as mine beats untainted.     Let my armour run red; my foe’s blood to stain it.”
