The Stormlands

The frozen north of Auld Bastila is commonly referred to as The Stormlands. This is due to the sweeping snowstorms and massive clouds of thunder that plague the area. Few dare to make their way into the Stormlands. Those that live there do so in small nomad tribes, wandering the tundra to avoid the worst of the raging storms.
Those who attempt to sail to the Stormlands find their boats wrecked upon the floating icebergs. Those who attempt to travel there by land must first get past the Midnight Veil, a towering mountain range filled with unholy perils.
Because so few travel into the Stormlands, the region is the source of many superstitions, folk tales and rumours. The most common of which is that Giants roam the Stormlands, preying on any who find themselves lost in the blizzards.
Nestled high in the mountains, just beyond the Midnight Veil, sits Stargazer Valley. Isolated from the rest of the world, the valley is teeming with all manner of unique life not found anywhere else in the realm. Because of this, there are occasional caravans that brave the trip through the Midnight Veil to explore the valley. Those who settled in Stargazer Valley have done so in the frontier town of Storm's Reach.


Stormlander Cuisine
The rare groups that do live in the Stormlands find food hard to come. Each meal must be fought tooth and claw for. Because only the strong survive in the north, Stormlanders eat a large amount of meat in their diets. The meals are usually grilled over large communal bonfires and eaten together as a part of a feast.

Grilled Yak Steak
A thick delicious cut of Yak meat, grilled over a bonfire and topped with yak butter mixed with tarragon and tundra parsley.
Elderberry Mead
A strong alcohol made from boiled elderberries and seasoned with stinging nettles, rosehip and apples.
Stormlander Stew
Cubed chunks of yak and elk meat slowly stewed over several days with a mixture of herbs, nettles and roots. The broth is saved and reused as it boils for weeks on end. When the time comes to move the village, the broth is distilled into bouillon cubes and stored for later.
Steppewalker's Breakfast
A specialty recipe written by renowned chef Bellissimo Beauregard on his journey into the Stargazer Valley. A hearty breakfast made from ingredients found only in the Celestial Steppe. Thinly sliced Dhaka meat is fried over a campfire, then the fat is used to scramble Yawpo eggs to light and fluffy perfection. The meal is served with fried and salted Ruby Potatoes and sauteed Wild Steppe Onions. The perfect meal to start your day with when you’ve got a lot of walking ahead of you.
