Hours before dawn on the twenty-third of March 454KS the object known as The King's Eye, which had appeared a little over nine years ago and gradually risen to dominate the night sky, fell out the sky, arcing a path over The Witwell Mountains and coming to ground somewhere in The Lamas Plains.
When it first landed its light blazed like the midday sun, too bright to gaze upon directly, but as the sun rose across the The Mirror Sea, the light from The King's Eye faded until it was but a pin-prick of starlight once again.
