Ghost

Ghosts are a type of Undead organism. They are primarily in ASCOMYCOTA.   Ghosts are usually the essences of humans who have died, though there is a chance for pets to become ghosts as well. Ghosts can be from any Story but are generally limited in what universes they can travel to. Hallow Haven is the most common area where the Undead are drawn to.   Like the rest of the Undead, they are technically ruled by RUNE and CYCLES.   The most prominent ghost character is Beth Heralds.

Basic Information

Genetics and Reproduction

Ghosts cannot reproduce. Typically, the appearance of a ghost is associated with an untimely, unknown, or unjustified death. It is ultimately up to Cycles and Rune to determine who becomes a ghost and who passes on, however.

Growth Rate & Stages

Like the other Undeads, ghosts have five loose stages that they flip between based on their needs (see dietary needs and habits).
  • Stage 1 - The ghost is a floating, slightly translucent version of their formerly living self. For the most part, they are stuck in the clothes they died in. Ghosts in Stage 1 can interact with objects, willingly float through walls, speak, and wander far beyond their grave.
  • Stage 2 - The ghost decays and resembles how they looked when they died. The appearance varies, but generally they are more translucent than before. They may be more anxious, irritable, or paranoid than normal. In stage 2 and 3, they may exhibit otherwise unseen 'haunting' behaviors, where they watch other beings, turn invisible and mess with objects, and hold grudges against anyone who has wronged them.
  • Stage 3 - The ghost continues to decay and become almost transparent or shadow-like. Ghosts cannot interact with objects unless they haunt them. Many also lose the ability to speak and may try to seek out their grave again. If this is not possible, they are more likely to become distressed. Stage 3 ghosts will easily calm down if they can find their grave in good shape.
  • Stage 4 -An 'unwinding seam' appears on the ghost's body. If the ghost died of a cut or similar mark (such as a beheading), then their seam will appear there. Otherwise, the placement is random among ghosts, but an individual's seam will always appear in the same place even if they recover.
  • Stage 5 - The unwinding seam 'unzips'. The ghost's essence spills out and they lose their humanoid form. The essence can cause a variety of effects on the living (and amplify the Stage of other Undeads). Such effects include miasma, sudden illness, fainting, amnesia, temperature changes, feeling invisible injuries, vomiting, temporary blindness, and paranoia. The exact appearance of the ghost varies, but witnesses often describe a Stage 5 ghost as 'bodily horrific', 'animalistic', and 'wild'. Please note that the ghost is more scared of you than you are of it, and that it is still possible to save a Stage 5 ghost. They are in a lot of pain and must be treated with caution both for their sake and yours.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Ghosts are based on memory and consideration. Similarly, many also want attention, acceptance, or appreciation. The exact methods they fill these needs vary. Some examples include:
  • Talking about their life or afterlife.
  • Taking care of their grave site.
  • Being summoned or communicated with by mediums (if they cannot stay in their homeworld).
  • Being invited to events, talked to, etc by others.
  • Some enjoy getting gifts or offerings.
  • Many also enjoy having their graves cleaned by others.
Ghosts do not need food, water, or sleep, but many engage with these activities to feel included or to not feel so disconnected from their former lives. Many studies show that ghosts value hobbies or work, as it also gives them people to talk to and ongoing memories.   Like all Undeads, Ghosts are practically immortal unless they are truly forgotten and completely ignored. Note that ghosts who are hated or feared are still remembered, as they are considered to be the bane of someone's existence. Also note that harmful ghosts are a minority of all ghosts, similar to how not every human is a serial killer. On the topic of serial killers, the victims of serial killers who are written about extensively and become ghosts may not be able to rest for a very long time.   When a ghost is fully forgotten, they rest eternally and cannot be summoned, revived, or recreated, even if someone remembers them after their final passing.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Sadly, some ghosts' love for hobbies and work lead to them being tied down to companies or workplaces long after they die. It should be noted that Haven Hallow does not allow for binding magic, thus preventing this exploitation. Without binding magic, ghosts are not required to stay workers and may move on as they please.

Civilization and Culture

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Ghosts are generally friendly to other Undead people. Ghosts and Vampires tend to go along very well as vampires are based on social interaction.   Ghosts might try to associate with their family or former friends if they can, especially if they are children or were very family oriented in life.
