Session 17: Finding the first rip in the realm Report

General Summary

Our heroes started this session after first meeting Spark, about to ship him out for a crime that they suspected him for. Things settle a little and they discuss what's going on. He explains his deal and talks about the Abyss and his past. He's been travelling for two years, trying to find a way to get back.
The PCs convince him that he should join them for a while to check out the portal. He agrees. They're quite hard on taking him to the guard, but drop it eventually. They leave Pendle and set out into the wilderness along a rough trail. On route, they hear some cackling echo from way up ahead, they catch it up and Joe discovers loads of tracks heading off to one way in a fork. They follow and find a charred battlefield, with a few gnolls and hyenas still there. Spark doesn't wish to be distracted and leaves the party. They fight and kill them all, taking one prisoner. Orion turns three corpses into zombies and keeps them on him.
On route they meet a pair of farmers heading to Pendle to get work. They tell of a burnt down farm and they lost their value. Further along they find burnt down farm. There's an orcish lady and a human lady talking as neighbours when the PCs pass through. They talk for a while and see the bodies on the back of the floating disk. As it's coming to the end of the day they offer for the PCs to camp on their land. Orion buys two bed sheets for 2gp and they drink a sweet dark beer and eat mutton stew while watching wild horses gallop across the fields. In the night an ogre attacks the camp and they have a quick fight. Orion uses the zombie slaves (as one is dragged away by the ogre) and the woman wants them off her land. They listen and move 10 minutes up the road to finish their rest.
Over brekkie, a black griffon swoops down, pecks them, then tries stealing their roasted hyena leg. Reggie keeps the git there and they maul it to death. They take a short rest for a while then head off again, arriving at a large black rock some time later in the day.

A handful of coins from the gnoll bodies.

Missions/Quests Completed

The parties started investigating the gnoll problem west of Pendle, without really knowing there was a problem.
They also found a large black rock in the middle of the field that looks suspicious.
