Session 33: The Apostolic Seal
General Summary
The party took one look into the altar room, beheld the scroll on the altar emitting green energy toward a set of stone double-doors carved with images of worm-riddled bodies and a screaming skull of Kyuss, and decided maybe they should recuperate before going forward. They barricaded the cleric's room and took a short rest. Vin discovered she had a Wand of Greater Restoration and used it to restore some ability damage!
The party tried everything but the kitchen sink, but couldn't affect the scrolls. They headed south, instead, and fought several worm-ridden undead in a dilapidated training room. After doubling back to try some cantrips on the scrolls (no effect), they continued exploring. They found a room with a magical water pump, a room with coffins and more wormy undead, and a room with a pit that had some wet grossness at the bottom and all along its walls.
Lins searched around for secret doors everywhere but the altar room, coffin room, and pit room, but didn't find any. Left with no other apparent avenues, the party returned to the altar room and mulled the problem over.
After their last encounter with a necromantic item, no one wanted to get too cozy with the protective layer the scroll seemed to be generating. Zeke dared Vin to touch it anyway, and they decided to rock paper scissors for who would risk a limb on it.
Meanwhile, the rest of the party contemplated what less-risky options they might have available...
Notes
Identified wand as Wand of Greater Restoration, added to Vin's inventory.
To affect the scrolls, the party tried:
- burning them with mundane fire
- shooting them with Ray of Frost
- blasting them with Eldritch Blast
- Moving them normally (they won't move)
- reflecting the energy line with a mirror (it was not disrupted)
