Session 45: The Angel's Tear

General Summary

The party steeled themselves and approached the tower. Suspecting it might be trapped, Sigvurd and Zeke used their portable ram to create a new door. But the commotion brought down the demons of decay who'd been circling above, and the party was forced into battle.   The creatures struck hard, and sapped the last of the warlock's courage. As the victorious party cautiously entered the tower, she fled with her shadow demon to hide.   Sigvurd noticed she was missing, and sought after her. One by one, the rest of the party followed, save for Zeke, whose mood seemed to have taken a turn for the worst. Muttering about cowardice, he began to explore the second floor alone.   Outside, Lins and Sigvurd quickly tracked down the panic-stricken Nemara in her hiding place under some rubble. Vin wasn't too far behind, though less concerned. She wondered aloud what hallucinations would follow as she rode her polymorphed familiar toward the spot. When they tried to coax her out, she lashed out at them, sending bolts of eldritch energy.

Rewards Granted

Divine Boon
  • Vin Frostkeeper Accepted Zaphrael's offer to become her family's Guardian Angel, and to appear to help them should they ever again fall into any danger from which they could not easily save themselves. Her only caveat was that Zaphrael introduce himself to her parents first, so they would not be frightened by him.
  • Nemara was warned that the power she drew from was an evil one, and that resisting its corruption would only become harder. Zaphrael offered her an escape. He could sever her bond to the Night Mother and re-bind her to himself as a Celestial warlock.
  • Zeke Dorn was the one who had restored Zaphrael's fragmented soul, and the angel told him that if he were not a good person, he would not even have been able to approach the fragment. He saw the paladin's potential as an agent of good, and told him that, if he ever wanted to renew his oaths, the Archpaladin would be glad to receive them. With the angel as witness, Zeke swore himself again to the cause of fighting evil as a paladin of Vengeance.
  • Lins Bogmar's connection with her familiar Kaida, and her willingness to dive into the Shadowfell to rescue her familiar inspired Zaphrael. He blessed Kaida with additional strength and hardiness, and the benefits of a spirit-familiar who needs neither food nor sleep.
  • Sigvurd Snake-in-Eye wished for the power to protect. Zaphrael admired his selflessness, and blessed his limbs with the speed and strength to take him where he needed to be. He gained the power to cast aside the blows that would strike down his friends, or else bear them himself.
