Session 47: Graverobbers
General Summary
As the party dodged two blood-red slush elementals, Vin and Zeke shlorped and clanged into Nemara's Grimoire. The party waged battle against the elementals, then took shelter in the room they'd been trying to reach for a rest.
After fighting off a pesky pudding, they raided some of the black boxes in the room and found treasures inside. But they had bigger fish to fry, so they retraced their steps, sloshing through the frigid water since Vin's Fly had worn off, and confronted the pit.
The party was agreed that since the treasure lay "far below," they had to descend. After some deliberation, they decided to free climb, having to climbing gear, and no more access to Fly. But the paladin's protective aura radiated from the book, and Lins had prepared Feather Fall, so they decided to risk it.
Part way down, they had some slips and falls, and found themselves scrambling for purchase on a rocky outcropping as the river continued to fall in a thunderous waterfall, gathering in a deep pool before spilling over the edge. Sigvurd launched himself through the waterfall using Jump, but found an unpleasant surprise on the other side.
As he caught his footing on a low rise of rock, he looked up and saw two figures floating in the cavern above him. They were clad in plate armor, resplendent even in the darkness, with red plumes fluttering from their helmets and snow-white tabards shifting subtly in an unseen breeze. They each raised one of their two longswords as if in salute, but instead of greeting, two bolts of lightning arced toward him!
He cried out, and Lins and Nemara immediately jumped into the water to swim beyond the waterfall and join the battle. When they arrived, it quickly became apparent that the warriors were forces to be reckoned with. They devastated Nemara with lightning and blasted a sonic wave toward her and sigvurd that sent them reeling. Sigvurd advocated retreat, and dashed forward to continue their descent. Nemara and Lins were quick behind him, but after they jumped, the warriors pursued with their blinding flight speeds.
They tumbled over rocks and crevices, and then free fell, propelled by the force of the rushing water, pushing them down into a lake below, to surface, gasping and bleeding with bruised and broken bones. The lake poured over the edge further into darkness, and the warriors who pursued them flew past without any further heed for the party, disappearing into the red-misted darkness.
Lins, having only remembered her remaining feather-fall after Nemara and Sigvurd already jumped, fell delicately as a flower petal onto the water, and noted that she had only one use left before they would be utterly at the river's mercy.
