Dagori Inkarth
Dagori Inkarth is an ancient name for the troll lands north of Prax and south of the Rockwood Mountains. The entire region is a jumble of mountains, hills, rocks and soils scattered about in a disorderly fashion. The land is primarily hilly and dry, though some regions maintain tough taiga pines and scrub. To the west lies the troubled lands of Dragon Pass,
Called Shadow Dance by its inhabitants, this region is a prehistoric matriarchal society ultimately deriving its power from Kyger Litor, the trolls' unseen mistress at the Castle of Lead. Her hierarchy of theocrats draws their power from kinship connections or from her Darkness magic. Even the air and sky around Dagori Inkarth seem infected by Darkness. Dagori Inkarth was originally founded during the Gods War and though often invaded, it has never been conquered.
Inhabitants
The north and western parts of the land is dominated by trolls, centered about the Castle of Lead where Kyger Litor is said to live. The trolls are well suited to the land and they worship the shadows which lurk about this area due to ancient magics and elder technology.
The eastern side is inhabited by isolated but powerful enclaves of elder races,
Culture
mmmLanguage
The Trolls of this area speak Darktongue, one of the oldest languages of Glorantha, and certainly the oldest written language. Written Darktongue must be carved into stone or metal, and can be read by feeling with one’s fingers.
Government
Dagori Inkarth is a prehistoric kingdom ultimately deriving its power from Kyger Litor, goddess of darkness and ancestress of all trolls. Her hierarchy of theocrats draw their power from kinship connections or from her darkness magic. Unbreakable tradition gives females favor over males. Thus the government of the land is a matriarchal theocracy.
Leading the government is said to be the goddess Kyger Litor herself, however, she is rarely seen by any but her highest worshippers, who have accepted or seized the responsibility and benefits of community leadership.
The central ruling elite is called the Eldest Kin. They live deep beneath the Castle of Lead. These are mostly Mistress Race trolls, many of whom remember the exodus from Wonderhome and who have not seen the surface world since Gadblad built the castle. Their names are buried under a history of titles and honorifics. The Eldest Kin include the highest authorities of all the cults accepted in the land, voluntarily subjugating themselves to the local Kyger Litor power structure.
Local events and ruling decisions are handled by lesser agencies than the Eldest Kin. Foremost are the tribes of the land. Tribes are kinbased and use a common ancestress to bind members together. Leading tribal members also are always leading cult members.
Military
Many troll military units and at least ten mercenary units operate from Dagori Inkarth. Both Troll military and Troll mercenary units also are known to operate in the Troll Woods, Pavis, or more distant regions. Numerous military units in troll areas do not take volunteers, relying instead on draftees to fill the ranks. Such units are generally referred to as the militia, but are often elite in nature. Mercenary units more often are forced to accept volunteers, or raid enemy troll units for warriors.
