Clifftop Observatory

Nestled on a series of basalt spires jutting up from the ocean off the southeastern cliffs of Stormwreck Isle, overlooking the tumultuous sea, this observatory once stood as a beacon of knowledge and magical prowess. Adorned with gorgeous stained glass windows and marble spires, the observatory’s towers stood high above the churning sea on separate islets, linked by shimmering bridges of magical energy. Within its grand halls, illuminated by the light of countless stars, the most brilliant minds of Toril gathered to unravel the secrets of the cosmos.   The centerpiece of their efforts was a magnificent planetary model of the solar system, an intricate structure crafted from gold and crystal. This awe-inspiring model, situated at the heart of the observatory's rotunda, accurately depicted the orbits of Toril and its celestial neighbors, serving as both a tool for study and a testament to their dedication. It was with this wonderous sculpture that the scolars mapped the path of one particular comet that they believed held great power. With an excentric orbit that takes it far from the planet of Toril at it's extreme, the four scholars held that every 250 years, the comet would pass incredibly close to the planet. They hypothesized that during this time, the flow of magic would become unstable given the proximity to such an ancient comet.   The observatory's grandeur was not limited to its planetary model. Its main tower housed a marble star map, a vast expanse of stone etched with the constellations and star paths that guided the mages' studies. Surrounding this central piece were four statues, each representing one of the observatory's most esteemed scholars. These figures stood as silent guardians of the knowledge amassed within the walls of Stormwreck, their stony visages eternally gazing upon the stars they once studied so fervently.   However, the observatory was destroyed when two dragons battled here centuries ago, and now it lies in ruin, a crumbled memory overtaken by nature. The once-stalwart walls have crumbled, and much of the precious knowledge contained within has been lost to the depths of the ocean. Despite this decay, the golden planetary model remains, a shining relic amidst the ruins, standing as a testament to the dedication and brilliance of those who once walked its halls. The marble star map, though weathered, still holds the secrets of the cosmos etched into its surface, while the statues of the four scholars continue their vigil, preserving the memory of an age when the pursuit of knowledge reached for the heavens.   In recent months, the observatory ruins have become the home of an arrogant blue dragon wyrmling called Sparkrender. Sparkrender seeks to claim the destructive magic that lingers at the site. Sparkrender has recruited a great many kobolds to join his cause.
