Ghavi

His Radiance, Ghavi Athyena

Emperor Ghavi of Calazen, known dynastically as Ghavi Atishalla or Ghavi Athyena, was a the second emperor of the first Calazen Empire in the dawn of the divine era.   The first demigod in history (and one of the most powerful), Ghavi was the child of The Chimera and the founding Empress Yena. He is now worshiped as a god in the faith of Nedira and in hero cult across Inahng.   Ghavi is also the ancestor of most Half Prisms and all Divine Blood Sorcerers.

Holidays

In Nediran religion, the Cult of Ghavi celebrates Ghavi's birthday in the late summer. This occasion is known as Crown's-Day, and it is customary to dress up in marvelous costumes and wear ostentatious headwear. Those who cannot afford to do so are often provided costumes and laurels or wooden crowns for the day during the public festivals. Pageants during the day celebrate the ruling families and give thanks to every class for upholding their duty to society. To this end, guilds and professional associations often use Crown's-Day to host parades or other shows, to receive public commendation and recognition.

Personal history

Ghavi was born in the early bronze age to the most significant parents possible at the time: the first empress of a large unitary state in history and one of the Architects. He was raised with ambition, boldness, and a kind of hubris only found in those who know they are divine.   His mother, Yena, loved him dearly but was often distant and busy. The great wars that established her empire had left it under siege by tribes seeking to raid its riches. One war is replaced by another. At the young age of 14, Ghavi volunteered to join Calazen's warriors in defeating the city's enemies. When he was forbidden, he began leading war parties on his own, quietly rebelling against his mother's authority.   In those early battles, he tested his divine powers and earned great glory on the battelfield. For the rest of his formative years, he ventured periodically out to fight. With his leadership, Calazen's warriors became unstoppable. His conquests built Calazen to its natural extent across the desert and the coastlines. Wars stopped being defensive and started being for the glory alone. The immense loot gathered on these campaigns built the empire ever higher.   Having reached the natural limits of non-nomadic society, Ghavi ran out of conquerable human territory. So he turned his attention to the Prisms in the Asira mountains. Some of them had worked as mercenaries against him before; others sought to constrict trade and make money off Calazen's cities.   Previously, they were untouchable- they were in the Mountains that Touched the Sky, across the Forever Desert. But Ghavi gathered together his greatest warriors and decided to venture there anyways. He had the greatest bronzesmith in the land craft him armor of bronze, peacock feathers, and silk. A sword and spear of perfect bronze, and a crocodile skin decorated helmet. He honored Tishalla and the Gods beyond. After he left, the smith was left pregnant with his first child (unknown to anyone involved- this would become the first bastard line of Ghavi).   Across his journey, his companions died one by one. It was a terrible venture through the desert and the mountains. He pleaded to the Gods for mercy. Finally, he made it to the Prism clan he sought to battle- Azetho of Frostmount. Ludu of Frostmount, Azetho's sibling, had famously been slain by Ghavi in a fistfight (something considered impossible) and Azetho was ready for a fight. That fight never really came, as Ghavi wandered the mountains, unable to find the Prisms at all. Azetho's warriors finally found him, unconscious, on an icy slope.   Halycon sent down inspiration to Azetho, telling him who Ghavi was and urging him to duel him honorably. Azetho followed Halcyon's directions and fetched Ghavi himself, dragging him back to the Prism settlement in the caverns below. When Ghavi awakened, he was enraged- and immediately chained in the basement. As Azetho watched the guards return injured, they began to feel uncertain about the duel. Azetho had publically sworn that they would duel, and wanted revenge, but this was a monster in the basement- breathing fire and smashing stone. The Duel was delayed for a month as Azetho prayed for strength and considered their options. While he delayed, another prisoner of Azetho, a Prism named Jade Atharzen, found that their guard had been knocked unconcious and launched into their cell by this newcomer. Jade cut herself loose on the guard's spear and prepared a plan to escape.   Jade belonged to a clan that had entered a bartering dispute with Azetho and had been captured for ransom. Jade freed the other prisoners, staying behind to capture whatever strange monster Azetho had brought in from the riverlands. They had never seen a human before, and were quite scared that these humans could be used as weapons against their family. Jade rescued Ghavi and took him home to her clan in Deephold to heal and recuperate.   One year later, Ghavi finally returned to Azetho for a fair duel. While Jade and their family battled Onyx's, Ghavi and Azetho held the honorable duel they both longed for. It was difficult, but Ghavi was simply too much even for this veteran Prism warlord.   When Ghavi returned with Azetho's family bound in rope to Jade's family, he was offered a prize of his choice. He chose to request Jade as his spouse, to return with him to his city. Their clan was uncertain, but the two had become best of friends.   When Ghavi returned after 6 years abroad fighting Onyx, he found that the city had presumed him dead. His mother had remarried, he now had a five-year-old half brother, and people were both happy and horrified to see him back   When Ghavi sought to marry Jade, he was pointed towards suitors who could actually continue the family line. Ghavi could not decide and did not want to choose so picked his two favorite suitors and Jade and said he would marry all three. His mother was not pleased, and the two began fighting- he wished to simply take multiple spouses to sire an heir, while Yena felt that he was setting a dangerous precedent for future emperors.   To resolve their issue, Halycon and The Chimera manifested as a griffonlike humanoid and a radiant prism. They allowed Jade and Ghavi to produce Half Prisms, who would unite their kingdoms.   Eventually, Yena died and Ghavi became emperor of Calazen. He ruled competently, and left the empire to Jade when he passed. After his death, Ghavi was the first human to enter Paradise and it was his entrance that first allowed Lunar Gods to invite outsiders into Paradise.
