Sorosko Island
In the mythic era of the Gods, Sorosko island was an uninhabited island of taiga and tundra deep in the Antarctic circle. It had little importance and a harsh climate and was largely untouched by sentient life.
In the late Divine Era, The Chimera blessed this island with power. The island was made a divine testing ground and a space where all magic was nullified. By grit and ingenuity, those who arrived on Sorosko who could survive for one week, overcome the trials given, and complete the tasks the island whispers to them (which vary from retrieving items, entering caverns, even climbing a mountain) would receive a permanent magical enhancement. These tasks are usually intuitive and line up with survival, but tend to be invoked to remove people from cushier prepared conditions. To make this even more challenging, a singular monster roams the island- the Jakratar (or "unknown monster"), an elusive but dangerous beast.
For those who survive the week, the reward is immensely increased hardiness and a kind of natural resistance. The boon makes one immune to disease, resistant to heat and cold, greatly lessens one's need for food or water, and is a general improvement to durability and survivability. From poison to stabbing to famine to plague, even to age- the boon is a general ward against an early death.
Sorosko Island is holy to the Zihari faith and Saraka faith, and Zihari holy monks manage most trips to and from the island. Some Zihari monks even live along the coast, On the Eastern side of the isle, the wild and rowdy Lodge of Kivarik has built their grand boating lodges. This group of nigh-suicidal berserkers and raiders test their own against the Jakratar and generally find glory in the island's tests.
Sorosko Island is one of the five trials of the Architects, along with The Vault of Nightmares, Undercity of Asalay, The Sages' Labyrinth , and Undersea Palace of Halcyon.
