The Maradian Enforcers

The Maradian Enforcers are an organization with a simple goal: to prevent the unauthorized construction of Empty Constructs by any means possible. This means hunting down escaped Construct engineers, capturing outsiders who learn the secrets of Construct production, and destroying any traces of such escaped secrets.    In this pursuit, the Enforcers have unique rights to highly regulated and typically-forbidden technologies and prototypes. No one knows the full depths of what they have made: flying machines, self-propelled vehicles, construct-armor, and rare weapons have all been reported in use by the Enforcers, but many whisper of other wondrous devices hidden away in their armories. This is part of the mystique and terror surrounding the Enforcers: they could do anything, could have anything, could know anything.    The Enforcers are a rare instance of a Holy Order that has transcended a single faith. Once, they were loyal warriors and assassins of the Keveket Hierarchy, but as other kingdoms and religions have received limited permission to operate their own Arcane Factories, the Enforcers have spread with them.

Structure

The Enforcers are led by the Council of Preservation, an oligarchy of ten elder Enforcers that work with the Joint Factorial Councils of Keveket, Heksala, Ishket, and Orisha. Beneath the Council of Preservation, small Chapterhouses have a fair amount of autonomy to pursue local leads as they see fit. Each Chapterhouse is led by a Knight-Director, who is nominated from the common soldiery and chosen by the Council to lead.

Culture

While the Enforcers are not tied to any particular religion, their roots as a Keveket monastic order show in many little ways: their utilitarian philosophy, their technocratic culture, and their rituals or initiation and promotion that include ritual offerings to Agamine the Lost. The monasticism is also still strong here: Enforcers follow a strict code of discipline, face strict regulations for any romantic or sexual relationships, and any Enforcers seeking to maintain families outside of the order must have at least one given as a hostage to the Order.

Military

The standard symbols of the Enforcer's warriors are the Repeating Crossbow (their specialty weapon) and their peculiar vehicles. Within Maradia, the most evocative of these vehicles are the armored horseless wagons and the rare-but-much-publicized "arcane steeds" that range from construct-horses to construct-powered motorcycles.    These inventions carry a great deal of psychological and physical power, but their usefulness can be over-estimated. While they project the image of having many of these inventions, they tend to be the rare working models of the designs of eccentric minds - expensive, faulty, and requiring a great deal of training to use without dying. Add in the anti-tampering measures that have a tendency to explode violently, and overreliance on the flashier constructs can be a recipe for disaster.    The true power of the Enforcers are in their ability to build up networks of contacts, and move with precision and discipline. These are spies and hit teams above all, warrior monks who spend their lives training in information extraction and small-group stealth and tactics.

Foreign Relations

The Enforcers operate freely in any territory with a legal Arcane Factory and have signed treaties with a number of friendly states to provide free access.
