Talk with the DM before taking the other, less common languages if they are not specifically granted due to a race or class feature.
Intelligence modifier
Positive (and negative) intelligence modifiers adjust the number of tool proficiencies and languages a PC starts with. Each plus or minus intelligence modifier adds or subtracts one proficiency.
Literacy
Most characters are illiterate. PCs can spend a combination of two language and/or tool proficiencies to gain literacy with all of their languages.
