Songrim Guard

The Songrim Guard are the military of Asylum City. They are made up of a single branch that concerns itself with serving the Governor and The People's Champion of the city, rather than serving the people. It is not uncommon to find a pair of guards harassing a citizen for even the smallest provocation, all while in other parts of the city, they are fighting off the Hydro Heads.
Songrim are a mixture of volunteers, the desperate poor, and those who were press ganged into the military. During the later years of the Hydro Head War, under the Governor, it was not uncommon to see deserters. Most of the deserters either ended up in the Torin, who then turned on their former allies.

Culture

The culture is relatively toxic and cutthroat. While there is comradery between members of a platoon, it is rare to see the same merriment between platoons. As the war against the Hydro Heads rages on, even that statement varies from platoon to platoon.  Among the Commanders, sentiments of resentment are concentrated. It isn't uncommon for a disagreement to end in bloodshed, with either the platoons getting absorbed into another or one of the guards replacing a slain Commander.

History

The Songrim Guard were created by Governor Joseph, essentially renaming the military into something he found more suitable. The military than began its more oppressive form in the history of Asylum City, baring down on poor and rich civilians. Brutality became common place, and became accepted by most of the inhabitants of the city, especially when the Hydro Heads ramped up their attacks on the city.

Religion

Most within the Songrim Guard worship the Dragoona, while there are very small pockets that worship the old gods, Lumina & Shade.

Foreign Relations

The Songrim Guard have solidly soured any relations between Asylum City and the Barrenlands.
