The Doge

The Doge is a mysterious figure, ruling the city of Venice without ever being seen. He acts exclusively through servants and middleman who themselves only receive instructions from people that have never met the Doge in person. Nevertheless his influence is felt by all who live in the city, be it the poor he adores and placates by forcing the Eternal Carnival into existence, or the powerful who are often the victims of his wrath when they refuse to follow his commands.

Rumours abound speak of him being the disfigured son of the patriarch of Famiglia Cappello, which might explain why they never attempted to remove him. Though one would be wise to keep such talk secret, for the Doge knows everything that happens in the floating city.

And though it does not seem like it, the most frightening thing about the Doge is that he never kills.
