Back when he was a kid, Jin lived in a war-torn country that was constantly fought over by much bigger, stronger nations. His town, for the first ten or so years of his life, was pretty untouched. It was small and out of the way, so not many things happened near it. Sure, they were affected by the war, but it wasn't bad. That is, until Jin was eleven years old. His hometown was ransacked and he was forced to flee with what few people were left. Jin spent the next few years helping taking care of others that were hurt or smaller children than he.
Fast forward to when Jin is fifteen. He helped out a sick man and nursed him back to health over the course of a little less than two weeks and let the guy go do whatever he wanted. A mere day later, he found the same guy in the middle of mugging a mother and child. Needless to say, Jin didn't take it very well. He killed the guy he helped, and the mother didn't make it out of the encounter alive. The child, maybe four years old, was sent back to the refugee camp.
Fast forward again. Jin was in his early twenties, having long ago left behind that camp. He stumbled upon a village in a similar state as his own, so long ago, and only finds a single survivor: a young girl, about twelve years old, named Olivia. He decides to take her in and they go travelling, and they stay together for several years until they get rudely, forcefully separated. During their separation, they both sustain bad injuries and a latent sickness takes hold of Jin. Jin meets Asura and forms Diyra, and they later meet up with Olivia again. Things are now all good, except they absolutely aren't and Jin is set to die within the decade even with advanced treatment.
