Briar Glen
A forested city aged by time, Briar Glen is located in the northwestern shores of Ulnost. Its foundation stems from the story of the Councils of Briar Glen, where the first druids communed together with the mystical trees of Eastwythe. Natural magic began to flow more freely in the presence of Elves and Men practicing druidic magic, and life began to flourish. These conditions allowed for healthier crops and a lower mortality rate among children and the elderly, and news of the fertile land in northwest Ulnost spread to those looking for a better life. Briar Glen was founded as a city of environmental majesty, and is today the home of many who seek protection and healing from the druids who study and work in the Sanctum of Dreams.
A Last Bastion
The city spent most of its time fostering peace and prosperity in its remote position in Ulnost. Agriculture was, and still is, its greatest export. Farmland near the city is often blessed by members of the druidic Lesser Council, performing rituals and placing boons upon the harvests. However, after the fall of Eastwythe to the fey creatures residing there, many members of the Greater Council are forced to spend time maintaining a great magical ward on the entrance to the Drowned Road- an ancient northern route leading straight to Eastwythe. This duty is paramount- neglect could mean the destruction of Briar Glen and a fey invasion into Ulnost. This ward has since been destroyed; the actions of Vesser Rantari Highmore in Eastwythe led to druidic magic becoming all but inert. However, the archfey known as the Prince of Jet made an agreement with Vesser and has stayed his hand.A Hopeful Future
The city has long been disconnected from the conflicts of the world. With the looming threat of Guarda Lagona to the southeast of Ulnost, members of local government have been reluctant to offer aid to military actions in The Autumnvale and other nearby regions. However, younger members of the druidic councils are waiting for the opportunity to become members of the Greater Council- where they can use their position to act on their own and provide assistance to the wounded Men of the Autumnvale through advanced knowledge of medicine or, in extreme cases, direct military assistance as powerful spellcasters. Despite these conflicts, Briar Glen is still a place of bountiful harvest, and takes its title as the breadbasket for much of the southeast regions of Wythe.
