    Notes:

Language   Essentially 100% of the population speaks Sevnóni.
    • The older the person, the more likely it is they also speak Common as a second language.
    • This mainly applies in urban areas where Imperial rule would have had the most influence, the further removed from society a person is the less likely they are to speak Common.
    • Anyone under the age of 30 (born after 398 AU) is less likely to speak Common, but it can be justified depending on their location and profession
    • Anyone under the age of 21 (born after 407 AU) is much less likely to speak Common, there needs to be a specific reason why they went out of their way to learn it after the expelling of foreigners in 408.
    Freedom
    • Freedom at both the individual and national level is arguably the quintessential trait of Sevnóni culture, alongside Faith.
    • Those talking about the country to foreigners are at least somewhat likely to refer to it as ‘free’ in some capacity: The free lands of Sevnónicha, the free nation of Sevnónicha, etc.
    • Because freedom is such an important concept to the Sevnóni, during peacetime prisoners aren’t generally kept. Either the crime is minor enough that you just pay a fine, pay back to the community with labor, or you’re executed. Only during wartime are prisoners kept for ransom or political purposes, and even then if the ransom isn’t paid the prisoners are allowed to remain in Sevnónicha as free men once the conflict is over.
Misc.   Knights and knighthoods are a relatively new concept in Sevnónicha, having been forced onto the country by Wythe in the last ~150 years. Knights were blended with the traditional warrior ‘caste’ of the chiefs, largely becoming traditional Wythian knights in name only. No new knighthoods have been granted since the driving out of the Sinopans, but there are still a fair number of knights from the days of the Empire.   The Imperial Occupation was made possible by the Imperial spy network, and their gradual infiltration of the King’s Court during the Sinopan wars. Over the course of the occupation, this information was eventually discovered and made public. As such, subterfuge, spying, and shadow networks in general are heavily looked down upon. Between the driving off of the Sinopans and modern day, most, if not all, of Wythian spies and criminal networks have been rooted out and destroyed within the country’s borders.       Clans, Chiefs, the Monarchy, and Noble Houses   In contemporary times, Sevnónicha is organized politically into a Kingdom, with the Monarch reigning over the land from his/her stronghold in Novaček.   Sevnóni Kings and Queens do not claim to have a divine right to the throne, instead relying on support of the Kpóldromal (the head priest of the Church of Myrvûs) to legitimize their rule.   When the Monarch dies, a Grand Viste (Assembly, pronounced (VIST) is held in Novaček to select the next Monarch. All six (now four, since Serzynek and Ne Hranstic were lost) reigning chieftains gather in the city to debate who shall replace the deceased monarch. In addition to the chieftains, Vyssíjórgen sends a six-man delegation, which is typically six of the nine Archmaesters. The former monarch’s council of advisors will also attend. Once a Viste is announced, the common folk will hold a Sevnóniviste (People’s Assembly) and choose 18 representatives to speak at the Viste on their behalf. The number of representatives is so high as to balance out the power of the Chiefs, Councillors, and Mages. Once all delegations are present, debates begin; candidates (almost always one of the non-commoners in attendance) will stake their claim to the throne, and speak on their own merits. These speeches will then be debated by the entire assembly, often for days if not weeks. A new monarch is not chosen until there is a consensus amongst the assembly (although some may abstain from the process entirely).   There are a number of Great Clans that exist today. These Clans govern regions of the country in the name of the Monarch.

  • Züürdyn (The East)
  • Historically, Sevnónicha was not a united Kingdom, but a collection of Clans and Fiefdoms controlling different areas, each ruled by a Chief
  • Chiefs are the head of their clan
  • Each Chief/Clan has their own traditional titles for themselves, some which have been preserved into the modern era.
  • The Wythians introduced the concept of Lords and Lordships, and while there aren’t really any Lords anymore, titles such as ‘Lord Paramount’ are not unheard of
  • Chiefs all have a council of warriors, scholars, diplomats, and mages that are bound to their service
  • These men owe their power and authority to their chief and as such are generally very loyal
