Anadephura
Within the central Lukhoran Desert, the city of Anadephura exists perpetually on the edge of war with itself. Three factions vie for control of the city and its resources, with the citizenry caught in the crosshairs. While not currently at a state of civil war, the city has reached a level of instability that seems almost baffling to observers, seeing as a city inside the largest empire in the world is less stable than those within the remnants of a fallen empire or actual warzones.
Government
Following a mixed-Lukhoran model, the city is governed by a council of ten local senators who are overseen by a Makadelian appointed Mayor who acts as an executive. Unfortunately for Anadephura, the senate is full of members of the local Lukhoran Nationalist organization leaving the local government almost completely gridlocked.
Defences
There are two sets of walls surrounding the city of Anadephuros. The wall of Philadelphus surrounds the districts of Philadelphus and Lykourgos, and constitutes what is considered the "old city". Next, the Agisine walls surround the outer boundaries of pre-imperial Anadephura, including outer Philadelphus, Lykourgos, The Dockyards, and beyond. Both walls have largely fallen into disrepair,
Infrastructure
Anadephura is connected to the West Lukhoran Railway, which connects the Greater Lukhoran Rail System and thus the rest of the Makadelian rail system. Being on the banks of the Erusideros River, a navigable tributary for the Nepheion River, a system of river steamboats bring in goods and people as well. Several roads go in and out of the city, including the Great Nepheion Road.
Districts
Philadelphus Anaktoro
The historic palatial district of Anadephura. While the original palace is long gone, the Town Hall located here is the seat of local government, and the district also houses several other important buildings. This district is also the headquarters of Imperial influence in the city. Despite most of the trains into the city being used to deliver iron ore and coal into the dockyards, the Palatial district is the location of the primary passenger station in and out of the city.Erusideros Naupegion
The industrial heart of the city, the Erusideros Dockyard district, refers to the dockyards and the industrial region surrounding the river. Many factories can be found here smelting iron and forging steel, but there are accommodations for many workers. This district is also the headquarters of Syndicalist influence in the city.Lykourgos Agora
A place for philosophy and commerce, the Lykourgos Agora houses numerous shops, meeting places, and residences for the city of Anadephura. While not as large or important as many other Agoras, this historic district is seen as the epicenter of nationalist Anadephura, and the streets are abuzz with the idea of bringing back the old senate and Ephoros.Demos Lusistratas
The largest district in Anadephura, which is primarily made up of residences and odd shops. The majority of this district comprises middle or lower-class residences, with many lower-class regions overflowing into the dockyards.Architecture
The city is built with a traditional Lukhoran architectural style, using sandstone as the main building material with palm wood used to provide support and accents. Many government buildings in the city are built in a more neo-Panochlan style, implementing marble and granite in the construction, and these buildings are common targets of vandalism.
Geography
The city lies within the floodplains of the Erusideros River, providing the city with fresh and fertile water, though nowadays the majority of farmland has moved outside of the city. The river floods fairly regularly, and centuries of work irrigating and managing the river leaves the city safe from floods.
