Kenyon Station
Kenyon Station is located on the inside of a bend in the Gila River. About fifteen miles west of Gila Bend, it's a site that's been occupied for hundreds of years. Twenty years ago, it was known as Murderer's Grave, as a suspected killer was hung from a tree that still stands just outside the corral. In the Butterfield days, it was called Kinyon Station, after the station manager, Marcus L. Kinyon. With what passes for wit in Hell's Furnace, it was renamed to Kenyon station in honor of Charles H. Kenyon, who is the superintendent of the Moore and Carrs Stage Company. There is a shovel hanging outside the door of the main station house. If anyone asks, the station staff will explain that it's there to be ready for the next renaming, when the location will become Canyon Station.
