The Eternal Desert

The area surrounding Cirros Mot used to be a luscious jungle stretching for scores of miles in every which direction. Incredible trees that stretched half-way to the clouds. Indigenous creatures that took strange forms seen nowhere else on this planet or any other. Entire ecosystems where every creature was perfectly suited to its niche. However, the vast majority of this would all change when the planet was tidally locked.   The trees died, some falling and turning petrified, others simply rotting away into nothing. Many of the animals could not adapt. Those that could migrated elsewhere, whether by foot or wing. Some managed to burrow under the ground where they now make their homes under the sands. However, most were never able to change and perished. Now the desert stands where a living jungle once was. The only creatures left in these harsh lands are those tough enough or ruthless enough to survive.   As it stands today, the desert surrounding Cirros Mot has very little life, aside from the few animals that manage to survive. It is a brutal place to live, perfectly suited for the Vrii, who require no sustenance, but this leads to almost no travelers of any kind coming within hundreds of miles of the mountain. Those that must will attempt to circumnavigate around the outskirts of the desert, not willing to risk running out of supplies with little chance of replenishing them from a hypothetical oasis that can not be sure to exist.   As the centuries stretch on, the borders of the desert continue to expand, which has led many who live in the surrounding area to wonder at one point their small villages may no longer be able to support themselves. Some have gone so far as to uproot their entire villages to move them farther inland away from the desert sands, but others have tried several techniques like trying to divert rivers or building large tree lines to try to delay this. Whether these will work remains to be seen, but if it fails, their way of living is surely over.
