Introduction to Thaouta

by Amelia Nite (Canva)
Thaouta is a vast continent stretching the lower hemisphere of Abas, or the All-Mother. Many different countries make up Thaouta, but the main include the Kourian Dominion and the Zalgi Empire. Thaouta is ravaged by war between the two main countries.   Across Thaouta, a plethora of sophonts can be found, such as the typical human, stroansian, grosant, oxlian, and essetid. Yet, some rarer sophonts can be located in other lands, such as Atica. These sophonts are said to be reclussive and overly cautious when being greeted by a stranger. Gnomes are by far the timid ones, while elves have grown braver and have ventured toward cities as their forests have been destroyed over the years. However, the rarest sophont of them all is the dialese, who is said to be the offspring of a stroansian and an elf.

Thaouta, or more specifically Kourian Dominion, is the current narrative focus for both stories and campaigns.

Kourian Dominion: The KD is run by Archstroansian Adoel and his siblings. While the Zalgi Empire waged war with the KD, the KD see this as a chance to wipe out corruption for good.   Zalgi Empire: At war with the KD, the empire seeks to right the wrongs of the Archstroansians and free the citizens of the KD -- though the KD tells a different story.

Themes of Thaouta

FANTASY
All across Thaouta there are adventures that span entire kingdoms and empires, with monstrous quests that seek to test adventurers. And then there's the mana. Mana flows throughout every being, however, only those with innate talent can access it.
GRIM
Heroes are nonexistent, or at least, good ones don't. Those who are considered heroes are corrupt and only care about fame and fortune. Commoners are hardworking and cower in the presence of their overlords. When the stakes rise and horrors creep in across the land, a rebellion is all that stands between destruction and death.
DARK
Every act you make may be your last, or it may be the last for someone else. Every choice you make can react as a butterfly effect, shaking the world to the core. If you're not careful, you might just end up being the reason the world ended.
Mupunko
The main town the Hidden Origins focuses on in the beginning. It is the home town of Cal Winterborne and Loke Dracos, as well as one of the towns heavily guarded by the Kourian Military.

  Alternate Thaouta
We all know the main continent on the All-Mother is Thaouta, right? The Alternate Thaouta is a version of Thaouta from another dimension, and it is home of the DPO. This world has seen the end of days and barely hangs on by a thread.

Buildings / Landmarks
DPO HQ
The DPO is a wildly known rebellion founded on the desire to stop the Kourian Dominion at any cost. They have but one goal to reveal the corruption rooted deep within the Kourian Dominion, even if it disrupts the current war. They are also responsible for discovering time travel and using their agents to rewrite certain events of the past to better forge a future for the Kourians.

  Wescier Cavern
A cavern that can be found on the western outskirts of the city, Laninikko. It is the very cavern that the stroansians first emerged from in 5789 NE. Inside the cavern is the Wescier Chasm, where as a portal to Eozania can be found. This portal allowed for stroansians and grostants to cross over from their world and enter Thaouta.

People

Adoel
As the head of the stroansians, he was appointed leader of the Kourian Dominion when he brought new technology with him that could fix the country's depleting resources. Adoel's charasmatic charm convinced many that his ways are the only way to save the Kourians. It is unknown if his methods are true or if he's corrupt and manically evil.

  Aiden Shadowlocke
The main protagonist of the Hidden Origins. While he can be a stubborn and hotheaded, he has a large heart and cares for those close to him. He works as a Time Agent for the DPO, and was loyal to his best friend and partner, Loke. After Loke's death, Aiden took up the mission to guard Loke's younger half-brother, Cal from all sorts of harm. This also presented him with taking every single DPO mission centered in Mupunko as his own. He currently lives in the Yushijan Apartments in room 425, on the fourth floor.

  Cal Winterborne
The second protagonist of the Hidden Origins. He believes in the justice and laws that the Kourian Dominion has put into place, as well as a large desire to join the Kourian Military the moment he turns eightteen. Currently, he works at the Underground as a bartender with Aiden.

  Jackal
Jackal is considered the worst of the worst. Banished from the Kourian Dominion as a threat, he ventured to the Zalgi Empire and slowly earned their trust over the centuries. Once in a place of good authority, Jackal helped the grosants with everything, even organizing the assault strikes upon the Kourian Dominion.

Historical Events

Death of Jackal's Love
When Jackal fell in love with an elf, Evan, his entire world felt aligned. Then, the unfortunate disaster of Evan's death -- rumored to be at the hands of Adoel -- lead Jackal down a bad path. Adoel and Jackal had a few arguements that soon evolved into a battle where Jackal was banished from the Kourian Dominion.

  War for Thaouta
An infamous war for the DPO. This war first began in 6431 TE, right as the resources for the Kourian Dominion were at 95% depletion and a global climate change started overtaking the world. This also gave the Zalgi Empire the edge it needed in the war and it advanced straight toward the capital. As a last resort, the stroansians fled the land, leaving the Kourian Dominion as a wasteland filled with radiation and scarce water sources.   With time travel thrown into the mix by the DPO, only those with grosant or stroansian blood in their veins can notice the alterations in the timeline.
