2021-12-04: The Sacrifice and the Vision
General Summary
The party ventured to the heart of the aqueduct complex. They challenged the guardian lagiacrus and defeated it in heated combat. The party impaled the lagaicrus into the sacrificial altar, then offered up the life orb to Kmuzat.
The rite and ritual brought forth a haunting vision of a black void. The party were in astral-like forms, glassy and translucent with their inner flames clearly burning in their chests. A single mote of starlight, bright as the heavens, fell from above and collided with the black ocean they stood upon. Their eyes traced upwards to see chains of darkest night wrapping around a marble-like luminous hand with an umbral fire spiked through its palm. The hand was severed from its original arm below the wrist and the silver blood dripped below as motes of starlight.
Before the party could process what they saw, they were whisked back to the aqueduct, where they bade a hasty retreat out and towards the research team. The bismuth and marble walls glowed with a soft, living light, and together they returned to the main camp.
The party debriefed at the main camp, trained for months, and learned that the temple complex could hold clues as to what they needed to do. During their training, winter set in on Kmuzat.
On the eve of leaving, the party saw a star shower fill the night sky. One such star landed near the camp and it was reported to contain more mortals from Hillit -- the third wave of support from home. Realization dawned as the party recognized that each star likely contained at least one new expedition member, and they were scattered across the entire island (much of which hasn't yet been explored by the team).
