Solar Reavers

Blackshield Space Marines

Summary

The Solar Reavers were a blackshield space marine force active in early M42.   Though unbound from any official Imperial authority, the Solar Reavers maintained that they were loyal to the imperium's overarching goals - a fact that offered little comfort to inquisitorial agents who vied to routinely destroy them, save for Inquisitor Sanders who saw them as an opportunity to further his own political ambitions.   In Real Life

Blackshield Companies

The blackshields of the Solar Reavers deploy versitle forces to counter any threat, relying on seekers to relay battlefield information to the tactical squads of Odin company. When brutal, close-quater assaults are called for, Marauder company leads the charge with devastating effect.

Apothecarium

At battle’s end, or indeed during particularly bloody skirmishes, the Apothecarium wing tends to the blackshield wounded, while extracting valuable geneseed from the honoured dead.

Administratum

Under the watchful eye of Inquisitor Sander’s inquisitorial retinues, the administrative branch of the Solar Reavers spends much of its time planning for the logistics required for blackshield operations, as well as negotiating for further requisitions and in some cases, diplomacy with both Imperial and non-imperial representatives alike.

Fleet

The Solar Reavers retain a handful of warships specialised in mobility and are more than capable of clandestine operations. Most notable among the fleet’s assets is its rare firestorm strike cruiser flagship - Sparrow.

History

Formation

The origins of the Solar Reavers can be traced back to the personal logs of Inquisitor Sanders, after encountering a small group of space marine blackshields that had very recently emerged from warp travel. Rather than report their arrival to other inquisitorial representatives, Sanders saw an opportunity and employed them as his personal strike force.   Sanders believed that despite potentiallly dubious origins for any blackshield marine, each of them brought a varied mentallity of making war, proving to be invaluable for discreet operations outside of the remit of Imperial observation.

Recorded Campaigns

Cato-Orbita Campaign - Early M42

On the order of Inquisitor Sanders the Solar Reavers deployed to the world of Cato-Orbita seeking to replace the incumbent Inquisitor Valerous with a loyal member of Sander's own Ordo while liberating the world from Ork attackers.   Once deployed, the Solar Reavers conducted numerous covert missions designed to weaken the world's imperial defences while goading local Ork raiding forces into attacking, prompting a costly conflict between the two factions.   The operation would be interrupted however by the discovery of an expansive genestealer cult present within the population of Cato-Orbita, which was eventually neutralized by the combined effort of the Solar Reavers and Imperial Guard forces.

Re-doubling their efforts once again upon the Orks, the invaders were eventually defeated and the planet was liberated - but questions would later be raised regarding Inquisitor Sanders' true motivations. Additional reports of Aeldari Corsairs stalking the fringes of the conflict throughout would evoke great wariness and suspicion from the Solar Reavers regarding their true place in the battle for Cato-Orbita.

Perseus Campaign - Early M42

The Solar Reavers deployed to the planet of Perseus to take back a mysterious STC held by a rogue magos.

Gordova Campaign - Early M42

The Solar Reavers deployed to the planet Gordova in response to reports of traitor activity on the planet. They were joined by space marines of the Iron Gryphons chapter.   After conducting a successful space-to-ground deployment alongiside the Iron Gryphons, the space marines uncovered activities of a Thousand Sons warband on the world which prompted further operations from loyalist forces aiming to cleanse the planet of chaos taint.

The campaign culminated with a final battle whereby the Solar Reavers and Iron Gryphons charged a fortified temple that contained a relic of apparent importance to the chaos marines who guarded it, eventually securing the relic therin and transporting it off world for study at the hands of Inquisitor Sanders.

Pulvis Campaign - Early M42

The Pulvis Campaign was a military conflict fought on the planet Pulvis II-D, waged largely for the possession of recently uncovered relics, artefacts and mysterious technologies, between several loyal and traitor astartes forces, as well as the Blackshield chapter, the Solar Reavers.

Poseidon Campaign - Early M42

The Solar Reavers took part in various conflicts within the Gothic Sector, lending their blackshields to whatever cause Inquisitor's saw worthy of their deployment.
