Tyler Winters (a.k.a. Taserblast)
The life of Tyler Winters is a very bumpy roller coaster, with many steep drops and high inclines. Adopted by Mrs. Fletcher and raised with his foster little brother Danny Wilson, Tyler never knew his real family. He was always shy around others and never interacted much. So when he developed a major crush on the new girl in his High School class, Raven Nightingale, he was certain that it would never be anything more than that, as she would likely never know he even existed.
However, a field trip disaster would prove him wrong, when the class was attacked by a man calling himself the Gadgeteer. He managed to push Raven out of harm’s way, allowing her to flee to safety. Almost immediately afterward, a brand new superhero named Lancelot arrived to help him rescue Danny. In the process, Tyler was zapped by one of the Gadgeteer’s machines, and nearly electrocuted. He was sent to the hospital, where it was determined that he needed an MG infusion to survive. On the bright side, during his recovery, Raven got to personally thank him for saving her, and suggested that maybe they hang out sometime.
Five years later, Tyler and Raven are attending college and dating, when another disaster strikes in the form of Cyrus Powell, a man who converted himself into an android capable of replicating superhuman powers. Lancelot saves him again, but accidentally lets on to the fact that she remembers him from five years ago. Tyler pieces together that Raven Nightingale and Lancelot are one and the same person, and joins the fight with her by using his newfound power to wield and control electricity. Unfortunately for him, Danny is killed in the attack. Tyler vows to destroy Cyrus to avenge his brother, and takes on the mantle of Taserblast.
Together with Raven, her brother Rodney, and Rodney’s friend Kelsey Raines, the four become the founding members of the Legacy. During the final battle against Cyrus, three new members join, including Vincent Eclipse, A.K.A. Adamant, Melissa Snow, A.K.A. Arcana, and Valkyrie Pine, A.K.A. Genesis. Using Kelsey’s ability to travel through time, the Legacy overloads Cyrus’s neural network by gathering every MG-Positive in one place. However, before he shuts down completely, Cyrus makes one last ditch effort to stop them, attempting to drown Tyler in the ocean. Raven doesn’t even hesitate to charge after him. She succeeds in saving Tyler from drowning, but is unable to save herself from the same fate.
However, there is evidence that she could be restored. Not only was her body nowhere to be found, but one of the people gathered during the final battle was unmistakably the daughter of Tyler and Raven. The Legacy spent two years trying to find a way to bring her back, when Valkyrie wound up making First Contact with an alien race called the Tili, who served under a warlord named Obitus. Being immortal and quadrillions of years old, Obitus believes that life itself is a fate worse than death, and seeks to spare others of this suffering.
Every time Obitus encounters a species, he uses his powers to resurrect a single member of that species to either serve as Ambassador or Annihilator. Tyler manages to apprehend Annihilator, and uses her as a bargaining chip to force Obitus to resurrect Raven for him. Unfortunately, this was a poor choice, as Annihilator was in fact a brainwashed and amnesiac Raven. Her combat skills were amplified by a powerful enzyme, but it also blocked communication in her brain to access memories.
Tyler came up with the plan to challenge her to a fair fight to the death. Annihilator agreed, taking 24 hours to let the enzyme wear off to avoid an unfair advantage. As he hoped, it allowed Raven to start fighting Annihilator from within, and eventually retake control. The recompleted Legacy then swiftly destroyed Obitus once and for all, and Raven and Tyler celebrated their victory by getting married.
In the following years, Raven and Tyler had three children, April, Baxter, and eventually Luna. Raven described his life best: “When you hit rock bottom, there’s nowhere to go but up.”
