Personal history
Bassa was born in Jeharoa in 898 of the Palladian Era (100 B.S.A.) in the city of Jeharoa. He and his family were part of the upper crust of Palladian society, as one of the few pure-blooded high folk families remaining in the city. During his first century, he watched as the Palladian Empire slowly crumbled around him and upon reaching the age of fifty-five, his family sent him to serve in the Palladian Legions. During this time, Bassa met another young man, a half-elf named Timeth. The two fell in love but because of his parents' strict belief in the separation of the classes, Bassa and Timeth's relationship continued in secret. Both he and Timeth moved up through the ranks until Timeth was promoted to Proconsul of Jeharoa. Timeth had Bassa reassigned to be the captain of his personal guard, a move that caused Bassa's family to resent the half-elf and further isolating Bassa from the rest of his family.
Shortly after Timeth's promotion and Bassa's reassignment, the Sundering Arcana occurred. Within twenty years, the Palladian Empire had lost the majority of its territory in Nioa, Iroa, and Auloa and the Holy City of Jeharoa was under siege from Qartagonian dragonborn outside the walls, and mobs of commoners inside the city itself. Timeth did his best to protect the regional governor and both he and Bassa participated in many costly battles against both the civilian population and the dragonborn invaders. Eventually, the governor was killed and Timeth decided to surrender the city. The Qartagonian generals ordered the city's remaining soldiers to be stripped of their weapons and pledge loyalty to the new regime, or face exile in the Marrow Desert. Timeth told his men to agree to these terms, hoping to spare their lives. Afraid and enraged, Bassa's family attempted to convince the Qartagonian leadership to execute Timeth and the rest of the military leadership of the city, while leaving the nobility intact. However, the Qartagonians saw no reason to spare only the heads of the military and carried out a series of mass executions. Bassa watched as his lover was beheaded and his father, mother, brothers and sisters as well as their young children crucified for their part in the slave trade of other mortal races.
The Qartagonians offered to let Bassa remain an Ashkelonian Guard in their employ, but Bassa refused. For several decades he lived on the Mount of Souls as a vagrant, adrift in grief. He slept on the mass grave where his family and lover had been buried and begged in the streets. Eventually, he got a job working on the Mount of Souls as an undertaker. Overtime, he became familiar with the teachings of the Silent Attendant and around 70 S.E., he was indoctrinated into the priesthood of Milcon as a Stitcher. Since that day, he has remained on the Mount of Souls, tending to the dead, consoling mourners, and ensuring the proper rites are observed for all faiths. He is one of, if not the oldest citizens of Jeharoa, though few know his history; only that he has tended to the Mount for as long as anyone can remember.
