Palace of Wisdom
The Palace of Wisdom is the royal residence for the monarchs of the Holy City of Jeharoa, and the current home of its reigning queen, Theodosia I.
Purpose / Function
The Palace of Wisdom is the capital and administrative center of the Kingdom of Jeharoa. All of the city’s most important royal advisors, administrators, and aristocrats come here to discuss matters of state. It also is the official residence of the reigning monarch of Jeharoa, Queen Theodosia.
Alterations
Originally, this was not a palace but a temple; a mosque built by the Qartagonian emir of Jeharoa to be the most prestigious religious building in the city. The Qartagonians had hoped the expansive nature of the then Temple of Wisdom would draw new converts to Kōs. This worked to a certain degree, though later emirs’ attempts to win over the local population by renovating the Sunstair Sanctum softened the original building’s intent.
Architecture
A beautiful series of arched porticos made of butter white stone surrounds a number of structures, each capped with a shining bronze dome. Inside, you wander through a maze of archways concealed by dazzling silk, each intricately carved in the Qartagonian style. Occasionally you find yourself in a courtyard or a lush garden fed by fountains of crystal clear blue water; tiled mosaics of blue and white; In the main audience chamber there is a single throne made of delicate ivory. The throne appears almost ethereal, as if it floats in space. Great heraldic banners hang above the audience chamber, and as you look up to see them, you notice beautiful geometric mosaics that all lead to a single oculus suspended above the ivory throne.
There are a number of cheetahs on the premises, including cubs. The adults are used by the nobles along with dogs and falcons in hunts. Other animals that share the palace include ibises, flamingos, parrots, dogs, and falcons. The birds are wild and come to the gardens naturally.
