Endurance of All Kinds

Written by Brackets-of-Ashlynnii

Celebrated on what is marked as when the fractured kingdoms of each Engios were unified under a single banner, the Endurance of All Kinds (EoAK) is a marathon run festival that consists of a single candidate of each Engios subtype (satyr, goat, moose, deer, bull, unicorn, and ram) going through a long run split into multiple segments based around each sub-type's signature strength, and ending off with one that Engios are known to dread. The event starts in the Hommjuanjah capital, Pajneos, and on the beach coast near a special ship port. Many stands and festivities tend to surround the EoAK, such as a multitude of food stands, games, and sometimes live musical performances, and there are digital screens with beacons for each candidate. The candidates each grab a large, tracker-marked shoulder satchel with a solid jar within, filled with powdered dye the same color as the Engios's blood, along with another empty jar and a air filtration mask. They start at the sound of the gun.   They start off with running and making long jumps from and to various places, before they reach the ship that takes them to the next segment (unicorn). When they land, they are faces with traversing a dark, maze-like forest, searching for light beacons; this one is not marked with a ship, but with a post (deer). The next segment consists of traversing ice and snow in harsh cold, guided by brightly-painted trees to the next ship (moose). Next is a test of carrying cumbersome packages, being given an extra, heavier satchel and having to traverse harsher terrain; this one is not marked with a ship, but with a post that they drop off their heavy satchel (satyr). They put on their gas masks and grabbing the empty jar to go through the toxic fodaysay pollen "snow" to gather fodaysay honey from a quogen nest marked with bright paint, before going to the next ship (ram). Next, they are faced to climb up a steep, high, craggy wall side, bordering on almost vertical; this one is not ended by a ship (goat). After being given heavy torso double-satchels (or a heavy backpack for satyrs), they are to carry it across a long range; this one does not end with a ship, but with a post (bull).   The last segment, a test of pain tolerance, is often dreaded, where they dive into water and go deep, marked by glowing beacons to enter an under-water cavern; the Starvein Depression. They swim into the bio-jeweled cave, swimming up to the cave's air pocket and seeing walls covered in glowing plants, roots, and creatures. Following the circled arrows, they run through and climb up back to the place that they started back in Pajneos to cheering crowds. Whoever emerges from the cavern first grabs the jar of their powdered dye and tosses out handfuls of it over the people in the crowd. When all of the candidates emerge back at the festival, they all take their fodaysay jars and the fodaysay is refined and made into a variety of sugary, sticky treats for the marathon members.   The winner of the run earns a prismatic, gem-adorned collar-necklace, a gem for each Engios subtype, banded with the colors of each type, and earn their name in the Unified Runner's Records. The flag of the New World and the Old World flags are flown on a special flag pole, and everyone sings songs, dances, and sings their Court anthem, before ending off with the unified/Pajneos anthem.

Components and tools

Large satchels with colored trackers. Plastic/glass jars filled with colored powder for each Engios blood color for each Engios participant to scatter on people at the end. Gas/filtration mask, extra empty jar for collecting fodaysay honey.
If a segment ends with a post as opposed with a ship, it means that it shares a continent with another segment. Bull territory is very close to Pajneos, but still far enough to be separate.

Author's Notes

The Engios are one of the species of the world; humans and Pardoners don't race themselves, but may come for the various festivities.
