Honiar

Welcome to Honiar, the capital city of the planet Honarth. Located in the heart of the continent, Honiar is a vibrant and diverse metropolis that is home to millions of people from all walks of life. From towering skyscrapers to crowded slums, Honiar has it all, and is a place where anything is possible for those who are brave and cunning enough to seize it.  

History

Honiar has a long and storied history that stretches back millennia. It was originally founded by the first human settlers on Honarth, who established a trading post at the confluence of two major rivers. As the city grew, it became a hub of commerce and culture, attracting people from all over the world. In more recent times, Honiar has become the center of politics and power on Honarth, with the government and major corporations headquartered there.  

Geography

Honiar is located in a temperate region with a mild climate, making it a pleasant place to live year-round. The city is divided into 13 levels, with levels 1-11 being underground and levels 12 and 13 being on the surface and above the city, respectively. Level 1 is reserved for shipping and storage corporations and is not open to human habitation. Levels 2-4 contain some criminal and shady activities, as well as low quality residential areas and businesses. Levels 5-8 are the highly residential, commercial, and trade regions of the city. From levels 9-12, we enter the high-end corporate areas with luxurious leisure options and a better quality of life. Level 12 is on the surface of the planet, while level 13 is floating above the city and protected by a dome. It is only accessible with specific passes and is known for its extreme luxury and security. Level 13, Honiar's High City, is connected to the planet by a massive lift, which is the only point of entrance for the public that are allowed to enter. Otherwise, there are several private hangars and ports that are used by politicians, high-level corporate officials.  

Honiar's Levels

Here is an overview of the Levels of Honiar, what can be found in each one of them and how life unfolds in each part of them.  

Level 13: Honiar's High City

A city floating above Honiar, Honiar's High City is a symbol of luxury, wealth, and security. The High City is known for its breathtaking views, sophisticated design, and world-class amenities. From floating gardens to high-end restaurants, this level caters to the elite. The population here is made up of top executives, politicians, and wealthy individuals who can afford the high level of security and exclusivity that this level offers. Every aspect of life in the High City is closely monitored and regulated, and privacy is of utmost importance. With a low population density and exclusive access, it's a peaceful and serene environment, with a focus on leisure and relaxation. It is accessible by the public through a massive lift or, for residents and those with influence, power or corporate connections, from private hangars and ports, either owned by the residents themselves or by corporations.  

Level 12: Surface Level

Level 12 is the only level on the surface of the planet, and it is home to Honiar's finest residential areas, commercial centers, and trade districts. This level is where most of the city's high-end businesses, shopping centers, and entertainment venues are located. With its open spaces, greenery, and a connection to nature, it is a welcome change from the crowded underground levels. The population here is made up of the city's upper middle-class and wealthy residents, who enjoy a higher quality of life compared to those living below.  

Levels 11 - 9: High-End Corporate Areas

Levels 11 - 9 are the high-end corporate areas, with luxurious leisure options and a better quality of life. This is where some of the city's largest corporations and institutions are located, providing a range of employment opportunities for the residents of these levels. The population here is made up of well-educated and skilled professionals who work in the corporate sector. Life here is fast-paced, with a focus on efficiency and productivity, but there is also a balance of leisure and entertainment options, making it a great place to live.  

Levels 8 - 5: Residential, Commercial, and Trade Areas

Levels 8 - 5 are the highly residential, commercial, and trade regions of the city. This is where the majority of the city's population lives, works, and plays. With a diverse range of residential, commercial, and industrial areas, there is something for everyone here. These levels are bustling with activity, with a vibrant and diverse community. Life here is a mix of work and play, with a range of leisure and entertainment options available.  

Levels 4 - 2: The Underworld of Honiar

Levels 4 - 2 is where the criminal and shady activities of Honiar are prevalent, and where the dwellers and scum of the city reside. It's a rough place, where danger lurks around every corner and life is cheap. But it's also a place of camaraderie, where people look out for each other in the face of adversity. The criminal organizations and gangs that operate in these levels provide a sense of protection and order, albeit at the cost of ruthless enforcement. The levels contain low-quality residential areas, makeshift housing for the homeless, and cramped business establishments. The residents of these levels are struggling to make ends meet and often turn to illegal activities to survive. The Food & Housing Program provides housing in these slums, but the conditions are often subpar, and the lack of space and privacy leads to further social and economic issues. Despite the difficulties of life in the underworld, it remains a vibrant and pulsing part of Honiar, where the real spirit of the city can be found.  

Level 1: Shipping and Storage Corporations

Level 1 is reserved for shipping and storage corporations and is not open to human habitation. This level is where goods are stored, sorted, and shipped to the rest of the city. With its vast storage facilities, it is a hub of activity and is critical to the city's supply chain. Despite its importance, this level is off-limits to most of the city's population, with limited access granted only to those who work in the shipping and storage industries.  

Population

Honiar is home to a diverse population, with people from all walks of life living and working there. The politicians and corporate tie-ups tend to live in the more upscale neighborhoods on levels 9-13, while the dwellers and scum can be found in the lower levels and slums of the city. The "gifters" operate in the underground black markets and criminal underworld, while the faceless make up the vast majority of the city's population, living their inconsequential lives in the urban areas. The tribal people, on the other hand, live a more traditional and nature-based lifestyle on the outskirts of the city.  

Economy

Honiar's economy is driven by the major corporations that are based there, with Kiani-Wynn Industries and UCARR-Anacorp being the two largest players. In addition to the corporate sector, Honiar has a large service industry, with many people working in the tourism, entertainment, and hospitality sectors.  

Culture

Honiar is a melting pot of cultures, with people from all over the world coming to live and work there. As a result, the city has a vibrant and varied cultural scene, with many different festivals, events, and traditions being celebrated throughout the year. The city is also home to many museums, galleries, and theaters, making it a great place for those who appreciate the arts.  

Landmarks

Honiar is home to many iconic landmarks that are worth visiting. Some of the most notable include the Honiar Tower, a towering skyscraper that is the tallest building on the planet, and the Honiar Bridge, a sprawling bridge that spans the river and connects the city's north and south sides. Other notable landmarks include the Honiar Monument, a grand statue that honors the city's founders, and the Honiar Opera House, a luxurious theater that is home to some of the best performances on the planet.  

Administration

Honiar is governed by a mayor and city council, who are elected democratically. However, the city is heavily influenced by the major corporations that are based there, and it is not uncommon for politicians to be swayed by corporate interests. As a result, the city can be a hotbed of political intrigue and corruption.  

Corporate Presence and Influence

The major corporations that are based in Honiar have a significant presence in the city, with their logos and advertisements appearing on buildings, vehicles, and other public spaces. They also wield a great deal of influence, with their lobbyists working behind the scenes to shape policy and legislation in their favor. For those who are not part of the corporate elite, it can be difficult to get ahead in Honiar without the backing of one of these powerful organizations.

Adventure Hooks

  • The player characters are hired by a group of dwellers to investigate a series of strange disappearances in the slums. As they dig deeper, they discover that a corrupt politician is behind the disappearances, and they must find a way to bring them to justice.
  • The player characters are approached by a representative of Kiani-Wynn Industries, who offers them a job working for the company. However, as they begin their work, they discover that the company is engaging in unethical practices and they must decide whether to blow the whistle or stay loyal to their employer.
  • A group of "gifters" approach the player characters with a job offer to steal a valuable piece of technology from UCARR-Anacorp. The player characters must decide whether to take the job and risk crossing one of the most powerful corporations on Honarth, or to turn down the offer and potentially anger the "gifters".
  • The player characters are hired by a group of tribal people to investigate strange occurrences in the wilderness surrounding Honiar. As they investigate, they discover that a group of corporate scientists are experimenting on the local wildlife, and the player characters must decide whether to stop the experiments or let them continue for the potential scientific advancements.
  • The player characters stumble upon a conspiracy to overthrow the government of Honiar and install a corporate puppet in its place. They must decide whether to get involved and try to stop the coup, or to stay out of it and let events unfold as they will.

  • The Honiar Bridge: This sprawling bridge is a popular tourist attraction and offers stunning views of the city from its pedestrian walkway. It is also a popular spot for street performers and vendors.
  • The Honiar Monument: This grand statue honors the city's founders and is a popular spot for tourists to take photos. It is surrounded by a beautiful park that is a great place to relax and unwind.
  • The Honiar Opera House: This luxurious theater is home to some of the best performances on the planet, and tickets to its shows are highly coveted. It is also a popular spot for high society events and parties.
  • The Honiar Slums: While not a traditional tourist destination, the slums of Honiar offer a glimpse into a different side of the city, and can be a fascinating place to explore for those who are brave enough. Just be sure to watch your back, as the slums can be a dangerous place for outsiders.
