Sarah Lionett

From an early age, Sarah felt an urge to help others; whenever she would play pretend with the other kids, she would always be the caring mom, the patient teacher, the healing nurse. As she grew older, she felt that healthcare was her calling and ended up studying to be a Clinical Psychologist and later on specializing as a Child Psychiatrist. However, due to the economic crisis, she was unable to find a job in her field and ended up tutoring kids with special educational needs at the Happy Camper Orphanage, which was ran by her mother.

When Mariah was put under the care of the orphanage, Sarah dedicated her full attention to the child almost 24/7, working hard to gain her trust and make her feel safe in the orphanage. Since Mariah spent a considerable amount of time nearly unresponsive or sleeping (either because she was dissociating or because she was completely drained after having a panic attack or a flashback), the progress was slow and took some time but, as the child became less skittish and her natural curiosity started to show, Sarah invested in fun activities they could do without having to expose her to the overwhelming presence of the other kids in the orphanage, such as drawing or baking. Once she had her confidence, Sarah also became her unofficial therapist, teaching her some coping mechanisms, such as grounding techniques. As time went by, they became close friends. When Murray accepted to foster Mariah, he ended up hiring Sarah to live with them to be her homeschool tutor as well as take care of the house and keep the child company when he was away for work.
