Osprey

The Osprey started out life based on the Zephyr VOTL Corporate Medium Lift Transport, armoured enough for use as VIP protection. Triton's Security Division liked the sizing and capacities of the Zephyr but wanted something to provide better fire support for its quick response forces.

Triton's engineers took the Zephyr as the base blueprint for the Osprey. As it was intended for use as a quick response force transport aircraft, they figured that it was likely to come under fire. So, they started out by increasing its armoring, adding ballistic protection into the cockpit and cabin areas. Then for good measure they upgraded the airframe shell with uprated Armor plating. This would ensure that the aircraft, aircrew and fire team were more likely to reach the target under fire. To increase survival odds of its quick response teams and the aircraft the engineers then added missile pods into the wing structure and added a turret mounted Gatling cannon system.

These upgrades significantly increased the airframes weight, and under initial testing the aircrafts power plant and engines just weren't capable of handling the increased requirements suitably. Triton's engineers then swapped out the aircrafts engine pods and powerplant to put in bigger engines and the necessary power provision for them. This upgrade action restored the lift capability of the airframe to the original capacities. However, the offset was that the uprated engines burned more fuel, reducing the flight time by 2 hours. Although this trade-off was considered acceptable as the aircraft was still capable of 10 hours of flight time on its tanks.

Security teams on Horizon demanded several Osprey's for use, especially as Triton's footprint grew. However, the range capacity did become an issue on Horizon, so the engineer's there built extended range fuel tanks that could be mounted to the under side of the wings. These tanks would reduce cargo carry capacity by 500kgs but increased flight time to 15 hours.

Power Generation

Balkus Fusion Power Plant - Provides the bulk of the aircrafts power when it is fully operation.

Hydro-Electro Power Cells - Provides power to the aircrafts lift system when the fusion plant is offline.

Propulsion

Twin Roctellus Turbo Jets - Swing mounted jets fitted on the ends of the wings provides the VTOL and main thrust capability.

Weapons & Armament

Zellenco Gattling Cannon - Fitted to a nose mounted rotary turret, used for close in fire support.

Janko Missile Launchers - One fitted in each wing assembly, 8 rockets are loaded.

Armor and defense

Vanguard Armor Plating - The Osprey is fitted with heavy armor, designed to survive heavy combat landing and provide fire support.

Communication Tools & Systems

Bantelli V/UHF Communication System - Horizon has no Global Communications Networks or Satellite Infrastructure, so on Horizon they resurrected older communication systems but combined them with more modern systems.

Additional & auxiliary systems

Extended Range Fuel Tanks - Two tanks holding an extra 500Kgs of fuel can be connected to underwing mounts and fuel connectors to increase the aircrafts wings.
