Ofrak
In truth, we know very little of Ofrak society: Spies sent into their land of Drad never return, and any beings that have survived their barren wasteland refuse to ever speak about the atrocities they saw.
Royalty: They are ruled by two monarchs, King Destrus the Eternal and Queen Melissa Mistrus. (Although no pictures of either of them are publicly available, we have sufficient evidence that proves their existence.)
Mythical Beasts: Rumours exist of an Obsidian-scaled Dragon called Drax that roams the skies, purging the lands of all unwelcome guests. (Personally, I doubt the truth of these reports. Invariably, the witnesses are farmers with overactive imaginations, confusing nighttime shadows for the mythical fire-breathing creature).
Lord's Protection: It is a known fact (confirmed by the Imperial Queen herself) that one of the 5 Guardians lives in their land of Drad. It is, however, unknown who this being is and what convinced the White Lord to choose an Ofrak as a Guardian.
Vengeful Behaviour:They are in constant territorial disputes with their rival neighbours, the Fein. (Read The Eristrad Conflict.) The Ofrak often retaliate by conducting raids inside Eristy by using hoarding parties that overwhelm villages with the sheer weight of numbers.
Consequence of Death: Every hoard has one necromantic warlock leader (aka Dead risers) who revives fallen allies. As unbelievable as this sounds, there are numerous witness accounts (from Fein warriors protecting their borders) of fallen Ofrak rising from the dead and continuing to fight. To deal with this, Elite Fein rangers first learned to target the necromancer. Once killing him, the Fein Captain Oraline the Obliterator and her sister warriors' massacre what's left of the Ofrak hoard.
The legendary Fein sniper, Uriest Deathbringer has even become so adept at piercing necromantic hearts, that the Ofrak now take two Dead risers on every raid hoping they can revive each other. This tactic works against most Fein rangers but not Uriest, who simply kills them both in one shot. For this reason, if Deathbringer prowls nearby, an Ofrak hoard will refuse engagement, preferring to escape. Death at his hands brings no rebirth.Cleansed by Fire: Rumours claim that to become a true Ofrak, one must accept death by burning, and once reborn, Destrus the Eternal accepts them amongst his ranks, albeit minus a fair percentage of their skin. Why anyone would accept this initiation rite is beyond my understanding, and until someone can explain their motives, the mystery will remain.
I feel clarification on the above point is required. Despite how horrific Ofrak society sounds to the layman, this encyclopaedia in no way aims to vilify their customs - Being a half-human, half-dead creature does not necessarily make you evil.
Yes, they may look like demons from your worst nightmares, but we've learnt an interesting fact from the few Ofrak raiders captured: They all have distinct personalities with independent thoughts - their minds completely undamaged by their king's fire initiation. Unfortunately, learning more has proven impossible, as no Ofrak prisoner lasts more than a day before their body succumbs to a mysterious illness.Equality?: Based on written communication between Queen Mistrus and the other race rulers, she seeks equal rights for her people and stops them from facing persecution whenever they exit their lands. She has even promised a halt to the Ofrak raiding parties if they are provided entrance into the All Race League of Battle Balt.
So far, the request has been denied and will remain, for the Imperial Queen detests the Ofrak and all they stand for. Her firm belief is that once your body perishes, the light must be freed and not bottled in a vessel forever. Doing so only serves to twist your very soul.
I am her humble servant and bow to our guardian's wealth of knowledge in this area. However, there are some (like my colleague Ricardo Butler) that believe the words of an immortal being have no weight in relation to understanding the value of mortal life.

Choose your Torture:
To learn more about the Ofrak, you must enter their domain of Drad via one of two paths, the first of which leads to a body butchering at the hands of a relentless being made for killing. The second option fractures your mind through a combination of lethal toxins and all manner of skin-consuming creepy crawlies...Path 1: Miles upon miles of Swamps
Entering Drad through this route involves a stamina-crushing trudge through nearly 100 kilometres of Magalarax - the deserted swampland called the Swamps of Solitude. A place where your every step is tracked by the mysterious entity called the Stalker and his gruesome denizens of the dark: slatchers and night feeders.Rastamust's impression of the Stalker striding through the Okrak wastelands after you. (Painted 839AP)
The 'innocent' glowing appearance of speleothems.
Slatchers are hand-sized puss-filled slugs that ooze through the murky waters around your feet as their metallic teeth rip through your shoes, delivering skin-shredding bites. Their poisoned mucus then delivers several hatch eggs into your bloodstream, which attach to your nearest ligament to begin feeding. An excruciating pain in your limbs follows, crippling your ability to move.
Night feeders appear as colourful lights that seem to hoover harmlessly around your body, but don't be fooled; whilst not as disgusting as slatchers, they perform an even deadlier task. Preparing you for their master...
Heading through Drad, be warned if you see red lights, for the Stalker has been alerted to your presence. (Painted 832AP)
Feeders absorb your light, stopping you from activating any Aura abilities you may possess. The process is harmless, so the individual doesn't realise what's happening to them - especially if they are mindful of avoiding hatcher bites.
It takes less than a minute for even the most capable of Sorce practitioners to lose all ability to protect themselves from what's coming.
Once all your light essence has been consumed, the feeders emit a combination of low-pitched sound and yellow neon glow, alerting the Stalker to your whereabouts. Once he's locked onto your position, he glows red as he feeds into his power, preparing his murderous sickle for your imminent demise.

Path 2: Days upon Days in the Drillfemon Caves
If the foolish choose the first path, then the insane pick the second choice - to navigate through the labyrinth of fearsome caves called Drillfemon. A profoundly oppressive domain found deep within Ruin Mountain where spending just one night shatters even the strongest of minds.I mean, come on, be honest, do you really need to enter Drillfemon... Welcome to your worst nightmares: caves said to possess creatures even more horrific than the Magalarax Swamps. Where dog-sized poisonous slatchers are waiting to play fetch. (Painted 837AP)
The dreaded venos spider species has taken home in the caves where numerous nests lie in wait ready to ensnare any hapless lost souls. (Painted 834AP)
Never touch the speleothems for they release a deadly combination of mind-numbing gas and paralysing toxin that leaves your mind and body vulnerable to consumption by the countless flesh-eating bugs that reside in Drillfemon.
Key characteristics of an Ofrak soldier:
If you were lucky enough to survive the caves, then prepare for your first encounter against an Ofrak guard.
- The most noticeable factor is the horrific burnt skin etched onto all Ofrak - although the extensiveness of the damage varies. Some have kept their hair and original skin pigmentation, whilst others look like they were trapped in a burning house for days. Two schools of thought exist; some believe this relates to age. The Older Ofrak are scarier and burnt due to the punishment their king inflicts on warriors from failed raids. Others believe that every time a warlock resurrects a soldier, their skin darkens through corruption.
- All are covered in scars from countless raiding battles - Unusually, new scars always glow bright white which, despite their demonic appearance, proves Ofrak are beings of Light and not creatures of Dark.
- Ofrak use any weapon available to them, especially those stolen from raids, but witnesses claim the trident, with its long-range striking capabilities, is their favourite for dispensing death.
- Ofrak often wear bandages because Ofrak wounds can turn septic as quickly as any other species of light. However, most disagree with this, claiming the Ofrak are exhibiting the blood of their enemies. In the same way, Imperial soldiers show medals of courage. Whatever the reason, it must be unnerving to face a naked Ofrak wearing only bloodied bandages in battle.
