Playing House

Our party comes together in Caer-Dineval. After a terse introduction and reluctant agreement, they decide to work together. Solidified by the attack by the duergar in Dinev's rest, our intrepid heroes check the lantern given to them by Danika Graysteel. It turns green as they walk the perimeter of the town, whereupon they spot a bundled-up figure—a human commoner named Elva—stomping out of a snow-covered cottage. Upon seeing the adventurers, she starts yelling at the wind and warning the characters to watch out for the curses it brings. According to Elva, trickster spirits have been opening her windows, sending horrible chills through her home, and knocking over her cups and plates. Some of her cutlery has even gone missing. The party finds tracks and, moving into the forest p.ick up the sound of movement from behind the conifers, where three chwingas are playing atop the snow in a clearing. A dinner plate with branches and pinecones arrayed on it is placed between them, and one chwinga is sitting at the edge of the plate while the two others are moving a fork and a knife as if to cut and eat the "food." When the party enters the clearing, the chwingas look up at them with interest. The one not holding a piece of cutlery starts moving its hands, mimicking eating while looking up at the party and making welcoming gestures. Atala sits down and indulges the strange little creatures. They're thrilled, and Atala is able to encourge one of the little beasts to follow her back to Dannika.

Chwingas

Incredibly shy in most aspects of their lives, chwingas were naturally curious and fascinated by humanoids, whose signs of civilization were alien to chwingas. Beings that wore armor, carried weapons, cooked food, and used tools were of great interest to them. Those that piqued a chwinga's interest enough could find themselves tailed by the diminutive elementals and given minor magical boons. The features that drew chwinga to individuals seemed completely arbitrary, ranging from height and hairstyle to artistic talent or other strange abilities
