Rifts
What is this Natural Phenomenon?
Why do they exist?
During Final Examinations at the Lockstitch Academy, all recruits display their knowledge of the Rifts and how to seal them before Katori, Lockstitch The Academy's Authority on all things seamed. As the HTML Wanderpus launches into the world’s beyond, the WanderCrew know the following to be true:
Rifts are always, always in water.
The WanderCrew can detect rifts using a somewhat magic rod with a stag beetle at the end that glows blue when a stabilized rift is near, and red if it’s unstable. (This technology is later phased out in service but still taught at the Academy.)
When a rift is frozen, nothing can pass through. Someone can still experience the rift, but since it’s a solid block, nothing can pass or fall through.
On a super foggy day, a rift can appear virtually anywhere, and will vanish when the fog dissipates.
Especially when on a mission, one can never let anything from a Rift stay in the world it doesn’t belong to.
“Some folk stepped in a puddle and came out in another world, many of those folk wound up here, lost on the Liminal Plane. This is what makes Liminal’s Oceans so dangerous, but they’ve gotten more volatile and sporadic lately. As such, we’ve been tasked with preparing you for what you may find out there and what you must prevent bringing back! I believe in you.”
Big Points from Season 1
Silver ignores the pull of rifts.
No one knows how LETO came to be sentient.
There is a musical aspect to the Rifts that the crew is still pretty blind/deaf to.
Mushrooms grow around rifts.

Rift Encounters
Marcus Burnhardt (ProfWinter) first meets The Lady Faye and could hear another world as she sang in her tent.
The WanderCrew finds a map with musical notes pointing out possible rift locations.
A Jukebox was discovered to be how the Starlight Group musically gets around.
The Lady Faye was singing a song to summon Juton, a literal moon, from beyond through a rift, causing the Liminal Plane’s first Winter.
When a rift was sealed with Silver Thread by Vatna Stein+, it became a door.
