Fortune
(a.k.a. Lady Luck)
Divine Domains
Fortune is the personification of luck and fate. She is also the personification of the planet Gamble for the inhabitants there. While orignating from ancient Greek mythology, the modern Universalist goddess Fortune has taken on aspects of deities from other religions and may more closely resemble these other deities in certain regions. She is associated with luck, virtue, gambling, and fate.
Divine Symbols & Sigils
Fortune is often depicted with a cornucopia, wheel of Fortune, globe, or ship's rudder. The archaic ship's rudder is often replaced with a gyroscope to represent starship navigation.
The wheel of Fortune typically has four segments. To the left is the ascending man, typically accompanied by the words "I shall reign." On top is the reigning man with the words "I reign." On the right is the descending man with the words "I have reigned." On the bottom is the fallen man depicted with the words "I have no kingdom."
Tenets of Faith
Followers of Fortune tend to believe that chance and random luck are the main factors determining what happens to people, not blessings, curses, or divine intervention. As such, they believe in taking care of people less fortunate than themselves. The one way to improve one's luck is to live a virtuous life. However, good luck is never guaranteed, and a virtuous life is worth living for its own sake.
Holidays
Her main holiday is the Feast of Fortune, which is celebrated at the local summer solstice.
Physical Description
Apparel & Accessories
Fortune is often depicted wearing a blindfold or veil. She is typically adorned in traditional Greek or Roman clothing, but is sometimes represented wearing the traditional clothing of other regions, depending on location. Sometimes she is depicted wearing modern clothing.
Mental characteristics
Morality & Philosophy
Fortune is depicted as impassive and impartial. The only way to affect the outcome of fate is to take action. Fortune favors those who take action and live virtuous lives, but she does not interfere with the outcome of fate.
